http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-22283117So some scientists have created a new keyboard layout designed to optimise typing using two thumbs (i.e. on handheld devices). The QWERTY layout was designed in the 19th century for typewriters, but limits users typing with only two thumbs to about 20 words per minute. According to the article, the new KALQ layout will allow typing speeds of up to 37wpm.
The app will be available for free on Android based devices.
Do you think it'll catch on? How long do you think it'll take to get used to? I'm tempted to get it to get a headstart on learning, but at the moment I use
Swiftkey which already does a pretty good job of improving typing efficiency using a QWERTY layout. Will anyone make a similar app using the KALQ layout?
