How to host a tournamnet

(1/1)

AHoppy:
So I'm trying to run a tournament at my college, but I don't know how many people are going to enter.  Also, this should only take maybe 3 hours tops because people won't want to play if it takes their whole Saturday.  So I was wondering what the best method to run the tournament would be.  I was thinking if we have 8 people, have two 4-player games for seeding then a 2-player bracket where games are best of 3.  But even then, that could take a long time.  Any thoughts?  I'm assuming around 8-10 people (maybe a few more, but that would be optimistic).  Thanks!

i've had some 8 player tournaments with my friends at school. we usually split the 8 ppl into 2 groups of 4. each group of 4 plays two games. the turn order is reversed for the second game. in each game, 1st=4pts, 2nd=3pts, 3rd=2pts, 4th=1pt. two people with the highest score in each group advance. tie breaker is total victory points in the two games.

then 1st from one group plays second place from the other group and vice versa. then the two winners play in the championship. for this bracket we usually do best of 1, but you could best of 3 as well.

good luck with your tournament!

9 player:

3 rounds 3player.
Each player plays once on Position 1, 2, 3.
1st: 5 points
2nd: 3 points
3rd: 1 point

after that you have a final round with seatings according to points.
