Useless? Are you saying any Dominion advice doesn't largely depend on the kingdom?

If someone lost drove up to you and asked, "Where am I?", would you answer, "You're in a car"?

No. Basically all dominion advice does depend on the Kingdom.

Edge case:

"On a Witch board, if you open 5/2, is it better to open Witch/Nothing, or Curse/Curse?"

That question does not depend on the Kingdom. ;D

Of course it does.  You said, 'On a Witch board'.  That's a specific kind of kingdom on which your question depends.

Actual question that doesn't depends on the kingdom:

When I use my Copper to buy a card, do I have to return it to the supply/bank like in other games (Monopoly, Settlers, Power Grid...)?

You've never done this?  ;)

Yup, I'd agree, that one doesn't.

Now, I'd hate to make this a silly semantics argument, but ftl was talking about advice, not basic how-to-play questions.  I've tried, but I've not yet come up with a question that asks for an opinion on the best play that doesn't depend on the kingdom.

My first try was, would you rather have gold or silver?  Seemed obvious, then I remembered Feodum.  There are cards that refer to, by name, Estate, Duchy, Province, Copper, Silver, and Gold, so the value of each of these varies with the kingdom.

OK, fair point.  Rules questions aren't advice questions.

But there really is a great deal of general advice you can give which is applicable in most situations.  Yes, usually you should almost always prefer Gold over Silver.  That's perfectly good board-independent advice.  Exceptions are just that -- exceptions.  They don't invalidate the general advice, really. :P

Would you rather have a platinum or a gold?  I think that might be one...  Drat, that also depends on the kingdom, whether you have Prosperity or not...

If someone split hairs any more finely they would cause a nuclear explosion.

But that, too, depends on the kingdom, because in Soviet Russia, nuclear explosion causes you!
