Ozle Google Maps Challenge 3
« on: March 22, 2013, 11:25:29 am »

Plot a course from the mountain a cop went around
Keep walking up the coast till you find a cave by the sea
Add a trip Inland till you need a new pair of boots
By the time you got back to the start (about 45 hours later) you’ll have passed the spot.

Yeah, this one is a hard one!

(Fixing...)

What do people think about sharing info?
Should I clear out old clues once someone has solved it or not?

Thinking about future people who come along and try?
Or should I just not bother?

Don't bother. People can not read through too far if they don't want too many clues. Aslo on this one, is the "for" at the end of line two a typo? If not I assume we should focus on that because it's weird.

I like that this one's a bit different (unless I've got this completely wrong). Trying to find the mountain so I can get started though...

On the solving front, I'm gonna keep the "twist" a secret because it's really interesting and I don't want to give that bit away (although it's probably not too hard to work out) but...

for the mountain a cop went around, a cop is a Police Officer. They're actually called Police Constables in the UK, and Ozle lives in London I believe. They're often referred to as PCs here, and that leads me to the Panama Canal, which kind of goes around "Ancon Hill" in Panama city, and that's the closest thing to a mountain I could find it going around.

I'm probably miles off, but that's what I've got if anyone wants to work with it. (Note the mountain should probably be near the coast, because once we've found it we need to go up the coast to a cave)

I've got nothing here though.  I don't see the so-called twist, I don't get even a piece of the clue.

There's something in the picture which confused me at first. Then I worked out what it was and it linked into something in the clue. That thing is the twist I refer to.

"Add a trip Inland till you need a new pair of boots" keeps making me think we need to find a place called Wellington, but they only exist in NZ and Florida as far as I can tell. Wellington, NZ is not inland, and Wellington, FL doesn't seem to have any mountains near enough.

Edit: There's also Wellington, UK, but once again there are no mountains.

I'm bad at these so I'm not really looking or anything, but the "back to the start" bit makes me think that the full set of directions leads you back to where you began.  Not sure how that works unless you're at the north pole or something.

Could the "45 hours" mean 45 degrees latitude or longitude?  They both break down into seconds, after all.

But again, I am not good at these puzzles.

The "till" in line three has to do with farming.  Given it doesn't match up with the rest of the line, I think that's definitely something to focus on.  It's a pun, given it fits the "until" part of the sentence, but is not an actual abbreviation for it (unlike 'til or maybe til, for example).

Please don't make it the one thing I've already worked out.

The trouble with this one, is once you have the first line the rest is pretty easy. However, think of it as two separate parts. You are NOT looking for the name of a mountain, but of a place.

Plot a course from the mountain ///// a cop went around

So.... "a cop went around" could be the letters of "a cop" reversed.

That would make the second half of the place name "......poca".

Update: according to some online translator "poca" means "little" in spanish.

Or a and cop surround it...

A...cop.

You are ignoring the word 'went'

The word went is just as important as 'a' and 'cop'

I guess this means we're searching for an older word than cop. Copper?

Edit: I'm looking at Copper Mountain, Colorado but I don't think this is correct because "Coast" doesn't really make sense there.
