Grand Market + Quarry with terrible luck

I have 3 Quarries by turn 5. My opponent only grabs 1. We both trash a Quarry to Mint-buy and replace it soon after. Neither of us can ever afford a Grand Market buy until he finally does turn 14. I can't ever buy a Grand Market until turn 18! By which time I've Smuggled 2 of them with my Smugglers from the Black Market.

Anyway, he ends up winning the Grand Market split 7-3... but with my 4 Quarries I'm able to buy just enough to sneak out a 3-pile win.

Why not Trader a Worker's Village turn 10 instead of a Copper?

Why not Trader a Worker's Village turn 10 instead of a Copper?

My general plan was to have very little treasure, and just play lots of Grand Markets. Of course Silvers would have helped me to actually buy GMs to begin with, but it would have made it harder to play multiple GMs per turn.

I'm really not sure why I bought a Trader at all though... that was probably a mistake.

I would have considered grabbing Apothecary so I could Mint away most of my Copper, then using Trader to trash Estates and grab Quarries.

Got a lucky Apothecary draw, but the gist of the idea works well. Emptied GMs on turn 13.
