But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

I can't get the Alchemy cards. It says I purchased it, so I tried buying the Mega Pack again, and still the cards won't show up in my account.

On a side note, I do like the way the new store looks

Same issue here. As I said to you in the chat there though, it's no real issue for me.

I'm a bit surprised they launched it without Possession, even in Beta. It's the card that'll need the most testing. Are they planning on releasing it to the public beta without Possession?

I also wonder about Stash and Black Market. Both of those cards can be problematic as well.

It's working now.

There's a bug they're aware of that Potion can appear as a kingdom card. I have a half-suspicious they did that as a placeholder for Possession, but whatever. If they know it's there, I don't think it's offensive in the private beta.

"When you discard this from play" effects should happen in an order the player chooses. Right now, Herbalist resolves before Alchemist, so Alchemist+Herbalist has turned into a nombo. Off the top of my head, Treasury and Scheme also care about that timing event.

"When you discard this from play" effects should happen in an order the player chooses. Right now, Herbalist resolves before Alchemist, so Alchemist+Herbalist has turned into a nombo. Off the top of my head, Treasury and Scheme also care about that timing event.

What would be nice would be, at the end of turns like this, to have a menu pop up with each differently named card listed, and a checkbox next to it labelled "all."  So if you have Scheme, Alchemist, Treasury and Herbalist there, instead of trying to hit the sliver of card visible, you check "all" for Treasury, then click its button, then check "all" for Alchemist, click its button, click once for Herbalist to put Potion back, and then check "all" for the Schemes, then click its button, to put the Herbalist and a Scheme back.

Challenging to beat two Lord Bottingtons at once (I beat them up and then they said the AI update hadn't gone out yet). It's a classic pure-Cornucopia thing; if you have played a bunch of Cornucopia you will know how things will go here.

Hamlet, Menagerie, Farming Village, Horse Traders, Remake, Tournament, Young Witch, Harvest, Horn of Plenty, Fairgrounds

I tried last night and a few times today on the beta site (beta.goko.com) and I haven't been able to.

I want to try playing with Tournament/Urchin/Mercenary/Maurader/Young Witch/Potion Cost Card/Colony+Platinum and see how the screen looks

I set up a game with:

Tournament, Young Witch, Cultist, Bandit Camp, Scrying Pool, Knights, Hermit, Urchin, and extra randoms.

There are two full pages of cards (11 in Kingdom, 5 Prizes, Spoils, Mercenary, Madman, Ruins).  The "view cards" button is four pages total.

The right-side cards (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Copper, Estate, Curse, Potion) partially cover up the Log and View Cards buttons at the bottom.  They're still clickable, but it's a lot harder to do it.

You forgot Hermit.  Hermit-Scheme is a very messy combo as far as User Interface is concerned.

Anyway, they deemed that getting Alchemy cards on Beta was more important than fixing all the timing issues involved in the Clean-up phase, but they definitely are aware of it since I sent them a long chunk of pseudocode a month ago.

Donald has told them that a switch of priority between Herbalist and Alchemist should fix most realistic issues; I don't know what the progress is on that yet.

...or let us choose what order to resolve them in.   OR have an option in some settings menu where you can either choose to have options go through the most likely order (the default option), or to be able to choose the order yourself.  Maybe sometimes you want that Outpost turn to come first, and maybe sometimes you want that 2nd Possessed turn to come first.

This is the kicker. It's Possession that's taking so long. I'm guessing it requires a whole new, unique interface. Also, it's has some rules subtleties that are hard to get right.

I'm assuming that's also why we haven't seen Black Market or Stash yet. They each require a unique interface.

I have logged around 15 different bugs with Possession and other cards in alpha.  Most of them are now fixed.  The ones that aren't fixed have to do with the more general issue that the interface doesn't have a clean way of having the user select between multiple "on-X" effects that happen at the same time, and I'm working on a design for that.

Some of those bugs might end up not being fixed before release.  For example, if you trash Fortress on a turn when you're being Possessed, technically there is a choice you can make so that Fortress doesn't end up in your hand.  Since strategy-wise it is very rare that a Fortress in hand is worse than not having a Fortress in hand, currently the code just defaults to Fortress in hand.  (To do it properly would require a sequence picker.)

The most amusing bug I found in alpha is that Possession was mistakenly coded as an Attack  :)

That is not so bad.

For Trader, it could just be, resolve Trader for the possessed player, then resolve Possession's when-would-gain, then resolve Trader for the possessing player. There's no point to being able to order the first Trader after Possession.

Based on the faq, it appears that it does "visit" the trash pile since the faq says

For Trader, it could just be, resolve Trader for the possessed player, then resolve Possession's when-would-gain, then resolve Trader for the possessing player. There's no point to being able to order the first Trader after Possession.

I'm glad that your proposed solution is what I told them to do.  There are only two "would gain" cards in the whole game, and one ordering is pointless, so don't bother trying to create a UI to let the player choose between the ordering.

Right now in alpha there's a bug with Trader, which is that the current implementation is "Possessee would gain" -> "Possessor gains", when it should be "Possessee would gain" -> "Possessor would gain" -> "Possessor gains".  But that should be fixed before the beta release.

Looking at the cards, I would say:

- Fortress does visit the Trash pile.  It says, "When you trash this", not "when you would trash this".
- When you put Fortress back in your hand, you are not gaining it.  It says "put it into your hand", not "gain it from the trash to your hand".

- As it happens in this situation you really do not want the Fortress.

This seems sufficiently rare to put off.

Possession is up. Seems to work fine, however, there is no toggle option to look and see what cards are in your hand while you are possessing someone else. You just see your opponents hand.

It switches back but thats even clunkier because it leaves your opponents photo where yours should be.

That said... the "Mega Pack" appears to be more expensive than buying the individual games.  Is that a mistake?

So they rolled out an overhaul of the store interface, but didn't actually release alchemy?!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!  I went from very happy to very pissed off in less than a minute.  Someone didn't learn their lesson from the original botched rollout.

Mega Pack is 540 bullshitcoins.
Super Pack 1 is 230.
Super Pack 2 is 140.
Dark Ages is 110.
230 + 140 + 110 = 480 < 540

It's not less expensive than if you buy everything at the 40 per pack price, sure.  And of course the problem is you have to buy bullshitcoins, but mostly they match up with the numbers needed.  I guess if you're OK with spending actual money on the coins that you get just for playing... well, then I start to worry about you.

Well that's a ton of help (not to mention, gratitude) to people like me who have been buying all of the packs individually, as soon as they come out, from the very beginning.  I'm playing on Goko because the dark ages cards make the game better and because eventually there will be no other choice, but definitely not because of the way they've been treating the dominion fanbase (mostly poor communication punctuated by occasional 3/4-assed attempts at decent relations).

Yup. The prices increased with the latest rollout. It was originally 200 for Super Pack 1 and 140 for Super Pack 2, 110 for DA and 450 for the Mega Pack. You also can no longer buy 20 Gokoins. Why is this significant? Well, for me, that is because I have 24 Gokoins and that means when Guilds comes out, I will be forced to buy 40 more Gokoins instead of 20 Gokoins. I should have bought them when I had the chance. The ironic thing is that yesterday I was thinking to msyelf that I should just purchase the 20 Gokoins now so that I would have 40 Gokoins for when Guilds rolled out. lol. I should have listened to myself.

Not true. You still have to purchase the finales, but 500 Dominion coins is nothing. It just means you can play the adventures for their respective sets. You can't do this if you don't own those sets.

So...lemme get this straight.

The MegaPack, which they claim is the "best offer", is 80 gokoins more expensive than buying the sets Watno priced out.  That gets a big ol' dubya tee effffff.

Now, if you factor in pricing discounts for buying gokoins in bulk.  You could spend $40 exactly and have 460 gokoins for everything that is currently released.  Or, you can spend $45 and have 540 gokoins and blow them all on the same set via the Megapack.  Or, you can spend $45, get the 540, spend the coins on the sets as Watno priced out, and have 80 left over for when they release Guilds...

Regardless, the pricing scheme is currently very confusing and a misrepresentation of a perceived deal.

Yikes. I'm really hoping this is just some miscommunication.

I can see using ads to generate revenue for those who play for free. That's part and parcel for online games. But if a consumer pays money for the game, then ads should not be necessary.

I'm speaking from my ivory tower for I will buy everything when Guilds comes out, but I will protest someone owning just Alchemy having to endure ads (not to mention that he only owns Alchemy).

It's not unprecedented.  For example, Hulu Plus (the for-pay version of Hulu) still shows ads, and those ads are way more intrusive since they interrupt the viewing experience.

Well that's a ton of help (not to mention, gratitude) to people like me who have been buying all of the packs individually, as soon as they come out, from the very beginning. 

People who buy things individually as soon as they come out pretty much always get screwed... You bought each season of some TV show on DVD as it was released? Well, now that the entire series is on DVD, you can get the entire series set for far less than the total you paid for all the individual seasons. This seems pretty much the same to me.

Not to mention that you get things for cheaper when they aren't as new. Don't want to pay $25 for that new movie that was just released on Blu-Ray? Then wait a few months and get it for $10.

Not saying it isn't legal, and I'm not saying everybody should hate it, but this is news to *me* and it's a showstopper to *me*.

My Dominion itch is being fully scratched (there's something for the out-of-context thread) by playing IRL (as denoted by the recent trend of my iso level) and whilst it would be a shame to give up on online Dominion, ads are something I'm just not willing to put up with for a product I pay for. I watch all of my TV shows on DVR, I'm a loser and I don't buy movies pretty much ever, and when I'm driving, my eyes are firmly affixed to the road. That's just how I roll.

Seriously, what's the hold up with making Alchemy available for individual purchase?  Seems like a "flick of the switch" kind of thing, and given that I already own all the other sets it makes no sense for me to buy a supermegapack or whatever Goko's calling it.

Yeah, but that's not... "news."  And sometimes similar things will show up after a game.

Thats not ad's either, the ads are something you have to watch before you play a game.

I was referring to ads that I haven't actually seen, since I haven't played without having something, that I am told appear in some circumstances. Other people can tell you about them or you can try playing as a guest to see them. The uh banner ad that shows up after a game or on the main menu, I see those. I have told them that it's silly to have an ad for something the person already bought.
