Here's the set: Duchess, Festival, Loan, Merchant Ship, Pearl Diver, Rabble, Steward, Torturer, Trader, and Walled Village

You open 5/2.  What's your strategy?

Probably something like this.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201301/13/game-20130113-132758-15103e15.html

Obviously it would be slower because of the opponent's Torturer, but unless they opened 5/2, they should be slowed down some by the curse(s).

I'd open trader duchess with an eye toward psychotrader.

Apparently I confused myself. I thought there was an article about it, but the only reference I can find to it is this post: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=3280.msg60385#msg60385

If I remember, it's basically massing buys, even at the expense of money, and using a Trader in hand to turn those into a bunch of silver all in one turn. I don't know why that'd be the best strategy here (or what Duchess has to do with it), but with something like Hamlet/Terminal Drawn/Trader/Loan, it's fun. Buy a couple Loans, use Hamletsto buy more Hamlets, and when your deck mostly draws itself and gives you +buys, reveal a Trader a bunch of times for an instant economy!

Seems insanely slow.

Okay, so this is how the board ended up playing out.  I basically went with the Torturer strategy.

My opponent went heavy Stewards, and killed me.

What is PsychoTrader?

buy a million traders, trader traders, trader anything, ignore what your opponent is doing, buy duchies early.

i don't think it beats torturer on this board though because there is walled village, which is a much better friend to the torturer than festival.

Your Loan should be Steward. It trashes faster, can trash Estates, and remains useful as the game goes on.

I'm not sure if I'd call that Psycho Trader.  IGG is great with Trash-for-Benefit, such as Trader.  And Trader is great versus cursers, such as IGG.  So IGG and Trader mesh well.

Edit: Looking that game's trash pile is further evidence of non-Psychoness.  Neither player Tradered a Trader, and only a single Silver got Tradered.  The Trader were used as TfB on IGG, and for clearing out Curses and Estates.
