Welcome to Mafia XVIII: Major Arcana Mafia II

This is the sequel to Mafia IX: Major Arcana Mafia. The game setup is a heavily modified version of Great Idea Mafia, for use with a Tarot deck.

Sign-ups and Pre-game:
1. This game wants 16-20 players. As soon as 16 players have signed up, there will be a 24-hour window for others to join. Anyone who signs up after this 24-hour window, or after 20 players have signed up, will be put in the replacement queue.
2. Once the sign-up window has closed, I'll send Role PMs. You should confirm receiving your PM in the game thread.
3. The game will officially start when all but three players have confirmed.

Setup Info

So here's how this works. This is a Semi-Open setup.

I've divided my Tarot deck into two piles, the Major and Minor Arcana. As seen below, I've assigned specific, fairly traditional Mafia roles to the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana, however, have been assigned secret abilities that range from "Oh, that's new and interesting" to "What on Earth was that?" in power and strangeness. As figured out last game, all Major Arcana roles have death triggers, that are secret even to themselves. Some Major Arcana are town-aligned, some are Mafia, some are Werewolf, and some are other.

In order to keep the Major Arcana roles feeling appropriately special, I've separated them from the rest of the deck. For every seven players that join the game, one Major Arcana role is added to the setup. After that is done, I deal enough Tarot cards to give everyone a role. In a game in this size range, there will be exactly two Major Arcana.

Minor tweaking is done afterward to ensure some semblance of balance. It usually comes out pretty balanced, but sometimes there's six werewolves out of 16 players and that's just no good.

last time around, you were complaining mildly about always getting vanilla or worse roles. so when i was picking roles, i came to you, and drew VT. i felt a little bad, so i decided to give you another chance, and gave that role to the next player on the list (i think it was shraeye). then i drew again for you, and got lover--and you wound up being the only lover in the game. it was hilarious.

Making the most of a one-sided lover WAS a real challenge. It's hard knowing someone is so good inside, but that feeling isn't reciprocated. Still...

We won in the fewest possible number of days (although one death too many):

D1: Lynch Mafia
N1: Mafia kill Doctored, SK kill hits town

D2: SK lynch
N2: Mafia kill hits, Vig kills Mafia.

D3 Lynch Mafia

3 Mafia, 1 SK, 2 Town dead.

Without the SK hitting Mafia:

So we never mislynched, and won in the fewest number of days assuming the SK doesn't hit scum. We could've technically gotten 1 fewer town deaths. But it's flawless because we never missed a lynch, and had the fewest nights possible.

Note: Both Vig and Doc were 1-shot.

eHal, I think it was quite comparable to the first few days of XI, which you were a part of. The mafia weren't necessarily slipping, they were just being kind of scummy, voting/defending in a scummy way, and not posting enough. It just snowballed out of control for scum.

I was the Doctor, and I successfully WIFOMed the mafia on their night kill

FYI I'll be VLA until around the end of the 26th forum time, I believe, maybe even until some time on the 27th. I shouldn't miss the start by too much if at all, and I don't think I'll be the only one busy during this time.
