I played lots of game today and lost even more. Well, that's probably not exactly true but I sure lost a lot.
Most of the time due to playing "sub-optimal" (gotta love the euphemism), but one of them was funny: the well known village/potion opening.

The good thing about being lvl 50 is that my opponent doesn't immediately start laughing at me in the chat.
However, the bad news is that it still doesn't work.

But, as the title says... almost

But... why village/potion ?

I'm guessing he doesn't really need or want silver and he's eventually wanting to play lots of monuments and without +buy opening might be the best time to buy a village. Also, it should be easy enough to hit $2P without the silver.

Turn 3 is another village with 4 though.

I'm not saying it was a good idea. I'm just pretty sure that was the thought process.

The two thoughts I would have on this board are apothecary/stables/monument village, maximum cycling, you might not want a silver here, might actually open village for this. On the other hand, you can just go straight stables/monument, mebbe with extra village/monument stuff later, but probably not. I expect this is what you want to do, but if you do that, you really don't want to detour for apothecaries. If you want the apothecary, go for it early. So I would think silver/monument, and probably your next billion or so buys are stables - stables over gold really, at least for quite a while, but pick up a platinum or two. At least, that's the general shape I want to go for. Have to worry a touch about getting some stables with no treasure....

I was just about to post this game! :)

Besides the Village/Potion opening it featured a village for 13$

There is a time and place for everything, i just never thought i'd see the time and place for village/potion.

I guess it's too early for Monuments. Remember the Villages help cycle (and they draw well due to the Apothecary) and the Monuments don't.

That said, I'm not convinced this is the way to go. I'm inclined to side with WW here. If Zem hadn't got suckered into buying the late Potion, he'd probably have been able to close out the win in time.
