Defining Lurking
« on: December 15, 2012, 08:57:10 pm »

Here's a point of discussion for f.ds mafia mods and players.

How do we define lurking when we are using it as a scum tell/reason to lynch?

I ask because I don't think we all apply it the same way.

Here are a few "definitions" I think are popular in games here:

1) the player in question isn't posting in thread
2) the player in question isn't posting in thread, even though he's around
3) the player in question isn't posting in thread very much
3a) the player in question isn't posting anything useful in thread very much (acti-lurking)

I am sure this list can be extended for awhile.

Remember, most games list the posting rule as at least once every 48 hours.  So post once every two days and you break no rules.

So, what do we mean when we say LaLL?  How do we define the standard?  How do we apply it fairly to those in the far-off time zones?

In my mind, you just need to do a post count test to figure out who is lurking. Chances are the bottom 2-3 people are lurking. Now, obviously you have to reality check that--who has inflated counts from rapid posting? (me, Frisk) who has infrequent but valuable posts? (theorel)--but if the highest post counter has like 80 posts and the lowest post counter has 12, Mr. 12 is lurking.

I have been forced to accept that lackluster play is a town tell for you.
