Coin Game (Round 6 starts)
« on: December 11, 2012, 10:40:12 pm »

In light of all this number-y games, one that I wanted to host before:

- Each player starts with 1000 coins
- Every round, you must PM me with the number of coins you wish to spend (integers only)
- The player who spends the lowest number of coins is out
- The player who submits the second lowest will get those coins back
- If a tie occurs, both players will be eliminated/get their coins back
- Deadlines will be 48 hours
- Last man standing wins!

- If you miss a deadline, you will spend one coin less then the highest submitter, unless that would make you get your coins back. In that case, you spend one more coin then the highest submitter. In both cases, you will receive a strike.
- If you receive 3 strikes, you're out

I guess these two rules too, but I'd like it more if it doesn't come to this.

Checking interests, signups and so on..

Yeah, sure.

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

How many players are you going to allow? (Potential length of game would determine my interest level.)

My aim is 10-ish or more, but I'll probably keep signups open till Friday and than all that /inned will play. I it might go faster than 48hour par day if people submit quick, and especially in later rounds.

This.  I don't want to submit a first action until I know the final number of players.

You're just getting eliminated.

Meh, just saw that this rule sucks:
"If a tie occurs, both players will be eliminated/get their coins back"

Should have been:
"3a. If there is a tie for the fewest coins, all players involved in the tie get their coins back and have to submit again.
4a. If there is a tie for the second-fewest coins, all players involved in the tie get x/n coins back, where x is the number of coins they spent and n is the number of players involved in the tie."

But well, I guess we'll play by the first set-up rule this time.

48 hours left to submit.

I'd be fine with switching the rules. Unless had this rule been known from the start people would have submitted quite a bit differently.

Meh, just saw that this rule sucks:
"If a tie occurs, both players will be eliminated/get their coins back"
I'll adjust my meta on you, since now I know you don't read the rules in you own game.   :)

I guess with 2 players remaining the one with the most coins automatically wins?

This makes the round of 3 especially interesting.

yes, and this round of four you set up for the round of three, while not getting eliminated. In theory it seems like the amount of coins wagered should increase each round, but I'm not sure about that...

And now the gaming talk begins... Will he bet high? Will he bet low? Can sometime be tricked out?

We'll just have to wait and see...

Well, I expected the amounts of coins to be higher for the previous rounds since betting highest is still way better than getting eliminated, but everyone tries to walk the fine line.

You have to walk the fine line. Lets say you don't, but everyone else does. You'll make it to the end, and everyone but one of the other people will lose before then. But that one person will have more coins left than you, and will win

galzria and tables seem like the only main contenders. I'm Having trouble seeing how jimmmmmm or I could win. You'd have to both die pretty much, or one of us two gets our coins back twice.

I'm pretty much out this turn away, I think. Trying to be too fancy in the hopes of catching Tables up. Can't let him have a lead after next round.

Tables  794
lipoil 600

Tables wins!

Little anticlimatic, next time, different tiebreakers.

I think this game could be much more interesting if it were played over multiple rounds, with points depending on how far you get, rather than a winner takes all.

Then people would probably bet a lot more each round, and would actually use up all their coins by the end. I mean, I lost with 600 coins left....

did anyone here have any real strategy? I know I just estimated what I could survive with each round...

Nope. First round was kinda, what do I think people will go for, how low can I go, then it was kinda, just bet a little more than I wanted to for safety, and it got me right near the bottom a few times.
