Rectangles (a Single Submission Game - Results!)
« on: December 11, 2012, 05:50:04 pm »

This is a simplification of a game called Circles, by Zandor of the GL.

To enter, submit the bottom-left and top-right coordinates of a rectangle; all coordinates must be natural numbers from 0-100 inclusive.

For each unit square within the 100x100 playing region, a point will be awarded to the smallest (by area) rectangle containing that square. Ties for area will split the point.

Players:
Watno
Captain_Frisk
Tables
Galzria
Axxle
Grujah
eHalcyon
Schneau
theorel
cayvie

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

So... if I understand it... (Since I mixed up on Convex Hull) --- The larger the Rectangle is, the more opportunities you have to score points by individual unit squares - but any smaller rectangle contained within any part of your own takes those points away from you?

It doesn't matter, because you have no information about your opponents' choices - it's symmetric.

OP, this is a neat game-theory sort of game :)

Congrats, Axxle!

(If Young Nick had gotten in before cayvie, Grujah would have won, and Young Nick would have stolen most of Captain_Frisk's points along with much of the rest of the void left by cayvie, with the slightly smaller (1,0) to (100,99).)

I would like to thank everyone who made this win possible: mith for running the game, me for wining the game, and everyone else for losing the game  ;)

Smart way of scoring it!

Omigosh second again! So close!

Damn slownick and damn Galz for not thinking right and making a smaller than 50x50 square, like I did.

Also, Tables and cayvie - why did you make squares with less than 10% of the area? It is very unlikely to win that way.
