I almost did exactly what Dsell actually did, which of course would have nulled us both and given the win to cayvie.

Good game!

I think I would have done what cayvie did.

cayvie was just doing what would have maxed the points for a hypothetical 11th player last game. :)

Huh, never even saw the first game.

How many games must be run before you can compile a median value bet for each box in order to maximize your chances of winning any average game? On a logic level, each box should be valued in chits according to it's value in points - but in experience people will choose 1 and 10 far less than 5 and 6 - and the margin on their bets aren't strictly inverse to that ratio.

Faust has also been incredibly stubborn this game. In other news, it's hot in the summer, and water falls from the sky when it rains.

This is a surprisingly fun little game. Fun to try to break out of the groupthink.

Interesting that the chits version didn't change TOO much except that SFS jumped to first, and Galz and I tied

so the best play for an 11th player in this game

would be to place

3 on box 1
6 on box 8
1 on box 10

yeah... don't think i'm going to do that one next game

Yeah, love this game.  There's another similar one called captain blotto or something, that I learned about at a conference.

As 12th player I put 2 on box 10 and 8 on box 9.

I think this game might be interesting as a turn based game where you can choose to add X chits to any box, in turn order.  You could prevent doubling up as a variant (you can't put chits into a box you have already chosen).

I would play this variant.  Heck, I'd host it.  Done.

Tomorrow ASAP we are playing slow-motion Tens10n.

The Chits version
Box 01 Value: 3
Box 02 Value: 7
Box 03 Value: 9
Box 04 Value: 11
Box 05 Value: 10
Box 06 Value: 26

Box 08 Value: 19
Box 09 Value: 20
Box 10 Value: 10

SwitchedFromStarcraft: 40
DSell: 27
Cayvie: 19
Galzria & Insomniac: 10
Voltgloss: 3

For Galz the remaining Chits would be
SwitchedFromStarcraft: 33
DSell: 16
Cayvie: 11
Insomniac: 6
Galzria: 5
Voltgloss: 2

The problem with this variant is that after the first game, the leader can always guarantee they keep the same number of chits by placing them all in the 10 - or, if the chit lead is extreme, splitting them over two or more boxes (e.g. 17 in the 10 and 16 in the 9). Really the only remaining interest would be in whether the leader tried to "capture" chits in the lower boxes in game 2. (The problem with *both* variants is that there is no clear payoff structure, because the number of chits to be gained by placing in the same box as other players generally outweights the points for that box, and it essentially becomes a game of who can guess where most of the chits ended up. I would probably never do anything other than put all my chits in one box in such a game.)

I go first, and place 10 in 10
Pretty sure I will only draw at worst, as everyone else will be countering everoyne else...nobody wants someone to get 11....so you couldnt put 9 into 9 and hope to pick up 1 later, no ones going to let you do that, especially if you have to do it in turn order..

Interesting... Someone may be able to hit >10 by some combination.  And it's also possible that someone can hit 10, and then it depends on the tie breaker.  Most tiebreakers would probably have you lose.
