Wow, I've heard people having their posts deleted, but never heard of a post having its writer deleted. Clearly theory is mad with power.

You seem to have misread. The word with asterisks was deleted.

Multiple people complained.  I believe in laissez-faire moderation, usually, but that was overboard.

Ambiguous grammar strikes again.

Poor again, it's always getting struck by various things.

I have no problem with rules, if they were upfront. If there was somewhere that said cursing is not acceptable on the forum I wouldn't have posted that. As far as I know there's nothing like that.

Rule #1: Site owners can remove whatever they want for whatever reason they want.
Pretty sure this one is explicit, actually.

What's the problem?  It's not like you were warned or banned.  I just edited the post title in a way that didn't alter the meaning of your post, and didn't mention it to anyone, not even you.

I get that. And it's not like having a word deleted particularly bothers me. I just like having a set of rules defined. Is this policy? Then say so.

Sorry Theory. It really isn't a problem. I just want to know if this is policy, and if so, I would like there to be some kind of sticky that says so.

So far I have moderated the forum with a "Don't be a jerk." policy in accordance with our registration agreement.  But I agree that a full-fledged set of rules would be nice.

I think theory and I both agree with this article.

So, you aspire to be like Havelock Vetinari?

Editing:  Not that I'd try to suggest that's a bad thing to aspire to.

Well, for me this community is not only alive because fools are kept at bay, but also because it's such a special little corner on the internet.

I mean, to find this place you have to:
- Love boardgames enough to have come into contact with Dominion
- Love Dominion enough to go on the internet and search for strategy info
- Get past BGG - which has a broader focus and may already be known - to land on this site and click trough to "Forums"
- And of course register an account

I also very much like to be proven wrong by how much the activity on these forums is tied into the availability on Isotropic. I've quit playing there and still like to vent my opinions here and it seems the number of active Forum Games has grown exponentially, so I think it'll be ok. But how big a turnoff Goko really is and what its effect on the forums will be remains te be seen.

I didn't even learn about isotropic until I'd been reading the dominion strategy blog for a few months.  I still don't think I've played nearly as many Iso games as I have IRL games.

For me, the distinction isn't "Child Friendly", it's "Polite Company".

This board isn't where I go to slam a few beers, hang with the guys, and not care so much about being crass*. Instead it's where I come to converse with a mix of people from many corners of the globe, all of whom have an above average intelligence.

While I'm not offended by an occasional profanity, it is rare when I read the usage of one that I feel no other expression could've conveyed the posters intent. That is to say, more often than not, the usage of such terms feels highly unnecessary. As such, and as such terms very well could offend others, I think it's only polite to avoid using them except under the circumstances in which no other expression would suffice.

That is, at least, the rule that I myself follow, and I feel that most others here do as well.

Quite simply, to sum up:
Quote from: theory
So far I have moderated the forum with a "don't be a jerk" policy...

* - Slamming a few beers and being crass may occasionally happen in the f.DS.Forum Games community, as I treat those that play there as close friends, and fully expect them to tell me to shut-up if need be. :P

part of the issue is that the offending words were part of a thread title. you can slip stuff into a post and get away with it easier. but when people see that creeping into their thread lists or see it repeated in the title block for every post in the thread they are more likely to take offense.

part of the issue is that greatexpectations never said half of the stuff that I am quoting here in this doubly-nested quote, to include most of this sentence.  In fact, it looks like palindromE barD is the one who is saying this.  you can slip vulgarities into a post and get away with it easier. but when people see murderous rebels in the thread they are more likely to take offense. Scoggly-wobbles.

I see what you mean.

Love it!
