E-mail Notification
« on: October 31, 2012, 07:17:56 pm »

Anyone else having trouble with getting e-mail notification.

For a long time I had it set up that I would receive notification via e-mail whenever someone responded to a thread I had previously posted on, or when I received a personal message.

However, at some point today, that stopped working and wasn't preceded by any forum account change by me. I noticed that I hadn't received any e-mail notifications and thought that fds was either down or was having a very quiet day, until I logged in here and saw that there had been many replies that didn't get forwarded to my e-mail.

Is this service being eliminated. If so, any chance of not eliminating it?

You're the second person to mention this.  Oddly, I haven't touched any settings.  Have you checked http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?action=profile;area=notification ?

And it just started today?

I have checked there... and yes. I received them earlier in the morning and then it stopped. Kinda odd. I think I might try switching forum e-mails and see if that works?

My experience is similar.  I got an email last night 10/30/2012 at about 10:30 (hotmail timestamp - don't know how to translate) letting me know I had a PM.  However, today I have had at least one new PM, with no corresponding email alerting me to that fact.

I don't know if it will help troubleshoot, but I have NEVER received an email letting me know of a new post in a thread I had posted in.  I assume that is because I have disabled that toggle, but I don't remember, and don't want to check.

Theory - I know you have the power to do this anyway, but I am not offended if you check my account for anything that may help you get to the bottom of this.

I am wondering if the problem is hotmail...

I switched my forum e-mail to my gmail account... and am getting the messages. But when I switch back to hotmail it still doesn't work.

Are others having difficulty using hotmail?

And yes, I did switch my preferences to receive replies to threads via e-mail. It is how I can keep track of, but can't respond to, forum mafia at work since this site is blocked there...

Hmm, well, all of you use Hotmail, but the person who PMed me seems to have a gmail email address.  This is puzzling.  They're not in your spam folders, right?

Mine were not in my junk folders as of my writing last night.  I've not checked emails today.

I'm very confused.  I don't know what could have changed.

I made some changes (enabling a Mail Queue and capping it at 25 emails per minute).  Does that fix the problem?

I can confirm that i stopped receiving notifications on 10/30 (my PMs from 10/31 didn't result in new notifications).  Also using hotmail.  Not in junkmail.

I think I see the problem: the f.ds IP is somehow listed as spam: http://cbl.abuseat.org/lookup.cgi?ip=50.116.53.199

I de-listed the IP.  Let's try again.  The change should percolate through to the email servers in an hour or two.

I did receive an email - but from your personal address, and it has a bunch of dirty pictures in it.  Did you mean to send these to someone else?

This problem seems to persist for me.
I did not get any notification for a tournament message I got.
It worked in the last tournament, I have not received any PMs in the meantime

"Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:" is set to "always"

edit:
I found it in my spam filter.
Gmail apparently marks messages from dominionstrategy as spam; the reason given is "Why is this mesage Spam? It is similar to messages that were detected by our spam filters. Learn more"

:(  I've been trying to fix this to no avail.

I'd appreciate if anyone who understands SPF records / SMTP / etc. could give us a hand.

For what it is worth, my forum email is not the gmail address, it is another account that forwards all mails to gmail. I do not think gmail can verify SPF for forwarded mails. You might want to check whether this happens only for people that forward their mails.

For myself the problem is solved, since I added the forum account to my address book.

Does anyone know about adminning an email server?

Are we getting abused by spammers using us as an open relay?  Is there some other misconfiguration of our mail server that is killing us?
