Crappy Flash CCGs

They're all sucky cash grabs.... but sometimes I get hooked.  What are your favorites?  I liked Elements a lot, but eventually the grinding got too hard.

I've been playing Ederon lately.  I hate how shallow the game's mechanics are, but it doesn't have an irritating limit on how long you can play each day.  And in various other ways, it's implemented well, even if the core game mechanics themselves are a bit dull.

I have been quite addicted to tyrant on kongregate, I don't know if you count that.

Also I play magic the gathering online which is incredibly fun.

oh then yea tyrant on kongregate is amazing, the multiplayer has gotten difficult due to the card expansions having a power creep. But the story mode is a whooole lot of fun.

Also while magic isn't a card collecting game and maybe its not supposed to be talked about on here because its very similar to dominion it is great fun.

Now why is that? I mean I would say it's definitely my favorite though it has recently undergone a MASSIVE power creep, I would think yugio is more of the defining ccg(now that I understand what they are)

I liked Elements a lot, but eventually the grinding got too hard.

Whisper it quietly, but Elements is very easy to script, at least for farming AI3.  Get a deck with no deep strategy and set up a script that clicks on every card, then "end turn", then all the between games stuff.  On Linux you can use xdotool; the syntax is

Code: [Select]
xdotool mousemove 600 545 click 1
to left click at the given screen coordinates.  Sleep and for are the only other things you need to know to write a bash script.

I didn't do this for long, as scripting these things is a good way to emphasise how pointless they are.  A similar trick is writing a Sudoku solver: I no longer have any desire to do them by hand.

Well, if you want to break something with a script, you can have your computer working for something like 50 cents an hour using a League of Legends farm script.

What?

First of all, Magic cards are getting more balanced, not more powerful. There are less bad cards, yes, but there are also less good cards. Unless with "recently", you mean the Urza block. And Magic would naturally be the defining CCG because it was the first one and I believe it's still the most popular.

hmm didn't know magic came before yugio. Also I didn't mean magic is getting more unbalanced just that there is a power creep. The original decks are absolutely useless compared to the newer ones.

Older cards are more powerful, but they're also harder to build with.  It sounds like a personal problem.

Well, if we're going that far back, I'll play 20 Black Lotus/20 Ancestral Recall/20 Lightning Bolt against anything in Modern. Or Urza-era Type II against current Standard. I don't know what you're meaning here.

To be fair, I think MTG has one of the least noticable powercreeps out of popular TCG's. Because they have rotation, newer cards doesn't have to be better to sell. They just have to be the cards you are allowed to play with. And Yu-Gi-Oh! probably has the most noticable power creep. They even add mechanics to play more powerful monsters with less effort. The bigger and badder the better.

I think one could suggest that the first CCG, given that it's still going strong 20 years later, can reasonably be called the defining CCG.

I'm trying to make one of these, as some of you may have noticed.  Does anyone have any experience with Python, or at least programming in general?  I'm trying to figure out how to get multiplayer to work.

Yeah, I have to agree that MTG is the defining CCG. I can't say anything about the power level of new cards, but there is a reason that tournament rules came into effect (Black Lotus and the various Moxes defined that).

It also introduced the concept of ante and even had cards that worked only if you played ante games.

I long got rid of my Magic cards, but I still have some of the next-generation CCGs that came out shortly after MTG hit it big: Jyhad, On the Edge, and Illuminati: New World Order. Man, I miss On the Edge, but that was such a niche market. I'd happily play a Flash version of that game.

(Repeating what I said in the last topic on M:tG)

The balance on the power levels in M:tG has gotten a lot better. There's a lot fewer ridiculously bad cards now.

However, when it comes to types, there's been some pretty big changes. Creatures are now stronger, and spells are weaker. The rationale for this is that creatures are much more fragile than spells, because there are many more ways to kill a creature than to stop a spell. So, Wizards decided they didn't like the current status of creatures, and here we are. I have mixed feelings about this, since I feel there's a lot of creatures that are designed to be good even if they end up dying first turn. See Thragtusk, Wurmcoil Engine, Vengevine. (I haven't played with any cards past Innistrad.)

All in all, the balance is still pretty good, and my inner Timmy secretly likes that creatures are pretty awesome now.

Except for Thragtusk. That card is just bullshit.

I guess the last few times I played, I found there are way more ways of instantly getting monsters out an plains walkers somewhat blow my mind. And the standard green deck I used to run still requires 6 land to get its big guns out and just gets destroyed

Planeswalkers are mythic rare.  If your opponents have a big enough collection to have several of those, they are probably drawing from a bigger card pool of newer cards than you are of older cards, so that's going to create an advantage.

I'm going to refrain from the standard plainswalkers jokes, but please spell it right, it gets on my nerve.

That's a very true point pops I guess I have bet limited cards and that's the bigger problem not just that they are old.

So, if anyone wants to try out Ederon, let me know and I'll explain how you start out.  There's quite a few things that are not obvious at first.  And a big thing is that you get going a lot faster if you commit to a class early on, so it's good to get accurate descriptions so you can predict what your preference would be.

Also, if your preference might be the Hunter class, I have 2 bows to give you that are staples for the class (very popular bow, probably the best bow at uncommon or common)
