If you played the Rogue and there is a 3-6 in the trash is the opponent still allowed to take 3 silver by playing the Beggar?

I don't think so because first you take a card from the trash and when there is no 3-6 then the opponent must turn the cards or do you gain the silvers just because an attack card was played.

You gain the silver just because the attack card was played; the card itself doesn't have to actually carry out an "attack" in order to trigger reactions. It just has to say "attack" on the bottom.

(And it's two silvers, not three, right?)

Likewise, the opponent can gain Silver by revealing Beggar if you play Pirate Ship and choose to take the coins, or if you play Minion and just take the coins, or if the you play Witch but there are no curses left, and so on.

Beggar (and many other reactions) react to "playing an attack card", regardless of whether that attack card actually affects you.

It's easy to think of Reaction cards as happening only when you're being adversely affected, but that's not necessarily the case. In the old days, Reaction cards only looked for attacks. Now there are other triggers that don't hurt you, such as Tunnel reacting when it's discarded to an Adventurer or a Fool's Gold reacting to someone else buying a Province, which has no other direct impact on you (aside from making your Tournament a little weaker).

Beggar is an absolutely terrible Reaction to Noble Brigand.

Same to Pirate Ship and Thief. I think it's ideal for beating Saboteur, since it turns losing a randomly-selected card into gaining a silver (and a copper if you like. You did buy a Beggar after all)

Really? That kind of surprises me. I mean, it helps protect the other cards on your deck, like any Gold you may have. Sure, they gain a Silver, but so do you.

I haven't tried it, though, so I'll take your word for it.

Yeah, I was thinking 'opponent gains a Silver and you gain a Silver' was a better outcome than 'opponent gains a Silver and you lose a Silver'—so Beggar seems like a fine reaction if you have reason to believe there's already a Silver or Gold to lose. So I think Beggar could be a good reaction to Noble Brigand (or Thief or Pirate Ship)... but maybe only if you've got a deck that's not really the type of deck you should build if your opponent's strategy is built around one of these attacks.
