Well, I don't know if I agree with this.  He bought extra Estates, never did anything to try and get a KC, and he bought 2 potions.  Also, he bought way too many Crossroads > ST.  Thoughts?

Uh, yeah, not buying any Kings Courts here is pretty bad play. You want to King those Monuments! And Goons!

Separately, I don't think I like the Monument/Shanty Town opening.

I have been forced to accept that lackluster play is a town tell for you.

KC, Goons, Shanty, and Watchtower all have great synergy. Watchtower doesn't mind shanty and xroads as a disapearing village. Those cards counter discard attacks well enough. KC+Goons is going to give a ton of points, particularly when you can trash extra copper buys with watchtower.

Getting a few potions is fine in a vineyards game. But this isn't a vineyards game. This is a goons game. I probably wouldn't even bother with potions. Just keep building the goons engine until you can 3 pile.

FWIW I *do* like the monument shanty town opening. Silver's pretty anathema here.

I guess the issue with the open is, well you want to hit $6 and then $7 ASAP. Monument/shanty makes that hard. On the other hand, vault should still be doable on turn 3/4 (not as sure a thing as a silver open) and that will vault you up to the higher cost cards.

Also no one did the vault discard your hand and draw with watchtower trick to get past your junk. I think that would have been golden this game.

I don't see anything particularly good or bad about either of your draws. He got a terrible draw after turn 6, drawing a Crossroads and 4 Coppers, but a few turns later you draw KC with 4 Coppers. I just think you had the superior strategy.

I am intrigued by this Monument/Shanty Town vs. Monument/Silver debate here. I think the answer to this, whatever it is, will help out my own game for sure...

i would have probably went monument/watchtower myself, but i don't see a real problem with ST/WT. it has to be similar in speed of hitting $6/$7 it's just higher variance than a money option. and the shanty town is probably more useful later in the game.
