A Rats Combo That Works! :)

 Rats, Forager, Fortress

4-3 Split: Open Rats, Forager (or silver and buy forager after first reshuffle)
Rats eats coppers and estates/shelters
Forager eats rats giving at least plus one $ along with an action, a card (from the rats effect) and a plus buy to get more foragers
When the rats run out of coppers and estates buy a fortress (a village returns to your hand after trashed). they can gnaw and breed all they like, they won't gnaw through the fortress, meanwhile foragers get more and more powerful as different treasures are trashed (cheap alternative treasure in the kingdom would really help too, like loans and fools gold)

Also, rats and death cart seems like a match made in hell :P

But, how is this deck supposed to win if Forager only provides +$1.

Forager gives 1$ for every differently named treasure in the trash.  You would have to find the courage to trash a silver and eventually a gold with your rats.  Getting to the stage where you hit plus 3 with at least 3 foragers probably won't be fast enough against most big money games, but throw in a couple cheap treasure kingdom cards (a talisman, a loan, or a fools gold), and you're hitting a card that gives you plus five $, an extra action, an extra card (if you're trashing rats), and an extra buy.  Definitely won't be a common occurrence, but I think it could just work.

That courage isn't that hard to come by. If there is already a Copper in the trash, then you can trash a Silver and still have +$2. Then, you can trash a Gold and still have $3. It's kind of beautiful how it works out.

The tricky thing is that you'd be doing the work while providing the other players with benefits to their Foragers. In that regard, Forager has the same issue as Trade Route and City in that someone else can leech off your hard work.

True, true, but the key here is the momentum provided by rats.  They not only eat your junk cards more quickly than an opposing mono-forager strategy, but they also are self-replicating "forager-food" with the benefit of plus one card.  You're opponent may get two trash a few coppers/estates/shelters/curses/ruins and benefit from your opportunity cost of buying and trashing treasure, BUT, this means they are using two cards in their hands to achieve a plus 3 benefit.  Not too scary as you create a chain that can consistently play multiple salvagers in one turn while simultaneously restoring their fuel source (rats/fortress)  Whether this is enough momentum to compete with a simpler BM strategy is yet to be seen, but I'm anxiously awaiting the game's release to find out :)
