I didn't see any mention of Philosopher's Stone but I'm pretty sure you need to convey the value somehow.

Just silently count them really slow so everyone can catch.
If somebody raises an issue, give them your deck and discard to do it themselves.
but giving them your discard means them looking through your discard, which the card doesn't allow them to do.

You can't look through your discard either!
you can if a card instructs you to. (Counting House, for instance, doesn't function if that's not the case.) I was under the impression that that was the case for Philosopher's Stone as well, although I suppose you could turn it upside-down to count.
