So, in a Bastard game there's no real skill involved since there's hidden booby traps and gimmicky rules that you don't know about until it is too late, right?

No. There's plenty of skill involved. You just can't trust the mod. So some things are different.

But the set-up is still designed to be fun and each faction should have some chance of winning.

I still think if I /in you'll give me a complete VT role. Probably even worse, it'll be an inept VT: "You are a Vanilla Townie. You have no powers. But that's not all! You're also useless! You can't vote! Or, to be more precise, you're inept. You CAN vote, but no matter who you vote for it will not count, but instead a hidden vote on yourself will be cast"
