It's been a while since I've seen one of these puzzles on here, so I figure why not.

My eccentric cousin has particular likes.

For example…

He likes radium but not uranium.
He likes pencils but not pens.
He likes paper but not flypaper.
He likes chains but not whips.
He likes neighbors but not homeowners.
He likes abetting but not aiding.

What else would my cousin like?

To add a few more:

My cousin likes rain but not sunshine.
He likes hail but not snow.
He likes Sony but not Toshiba.
He likes Apple but not Microsoft.
He likes Ascension but not Dominion (I didn't say he had good taste).

In coming up with this, I inadvertently painted myself into a corner.

As a result, my cousin knows for certain that he likes yellow, but he doesn't know if he likes gray.

I suspect he likes being facetious, but not sarcastic.

(That answer will give it away to about three people total...)

Meanwhile, he likes Stables and Alchemist but not Laboratory, Gardens but not Vineyards, and Rabble but not Torturer.  I don't think he'd be very effective at Dominion.

I'm pretty certain he likes both, if he also likes Apple. (Otherwise you're introducing a rule that requires (HUGE SPOILER) reasonably significant understanding of linguistic terms as opposed to much more common knowledge.)

Actually, the easiest solution is to say that the original way is good and City should not work in this case, plus similar words in subsequent examples also fail.

Plus the spoiler with yellow vs. gray... the original has "flypaper" which should be just as certain as yellow, no?
