All the Treasure by Turn 5

Challenge: In a solitaire game of Dominion with perfect shuffle luck, gain all 53 Coppers, 40 Silvers and 30 Golds from the Supply by the end of Turn 5. Possession and Outpost turns count towards the turn limit.

Hard Mode: Also gain all 12 Platinums.

I will post my solution if anyone solves the Hard Mode version, or in 2 weeks time.

Edit: Wait, there's 53 Coppers in a solitaire game, not 46. Fixed now - my solution still works.

I seem to remember that CC here has come up with some impossible things before.

He's only made 9 posts, and nothing seems out of the ordinary. Actually, some pretty good puzzle solving in those 9.

At a minimum, I see you needing 12 buys, cost reduction x6 (9 for hard mode), and all 10 Tailismans in hand. I'm not sure that's doable by the end of turn 5.

Yeah, i was referring to the solving of puzzles.

Ah! I see! You mean he's DONE the impossible (or seemingly so) in the past... Not that he's come up with impossible things. My misunderstanding.

(Why didn't I just edit this in to my last post? ???)

The bridges take care of the buys, and with 21 in play, you would only need 3 council rooms to reach 24 buys (or twice what's necessary at the minimum). This would allow you to only need 5 tailismans instead of 10, which leaves you 1 additional card (the original solution to your link was 9 council rooms). That should work for both solutions.

That solution is flawed. The second King's Court is played three times, despite the fact it wasn't King's Courted itself. Also, the gain of the second Nobles is used to get the third Ironworks in hand, but then the Nobles is played without drawing it (he could have intended to play the third Nobles rather than the second, but then the second Nobles is in the discard pile and there's no way of drawing it without going through the entire deck or using Chancellor).

I once got a solution for all the Coppers in 7 turns, or all the Golds in 8 (link), but this puzzle just blows my mind...

Already +1'd the opening post, because I just know I want to +2 the answer once he posts it  ;)

In the meanwhile, I'll try to figure it out but it seems like quite a puzzle.

My solution:

Turn 1: Spill a drink, ask your opponent to get a napkin.  While they're gone, grab all the treasures and put them in your deck.

If that doesn't work, Turn 2 will go for the "hey, is that a wasp in the house"? ploy with a similar denoument.

I think this does it; if I'm off please let me know where (I did this up quick and haven't heavily proofed it); I think I have plenty of room to change stuff:

T1: Iw
T2: Ch
T3: IwChCCC: Iw (gain Tr) -> Ch (discard draw deck), buy Wt
T4: TrIwChWtC: Tr -> Iw (gain Brg, Iw) -> Wt (draw 4 C) -> Ch (discard deck) ; buy Kc
T5: TrKcIwBrgWt:  Tr -> Kc -> Brg -> Iw (gain & top deck Kc, Kc, Cr) -> Wt (draw – Kc, Kc, Cr, Iw, Ch, C) -> Kc -> Kc -> Iw (gain Kc, Iw, Iw) -> Cr (+3 buys,  draw deck of 6C, 3E, Kc, Iw, Iw) ->
//(at this point I have an empty draw deck so I can use “perfect shuffle luck” with wild abandon)
Kc -> Iw (gain Kc, Nobs, Nobs, draw Kc & nobles x1) -> Iw (Kc, Iw, Iw) ->
//(I have one triple action open, Kc/Nobs in hand and Iw/Iw/Cr/Kc in discard)
Kc -> Nobs (draw Iw/Iw/Cr/Kc) -> Iw (gain Kc, Kc, Iw) -> Kc -> Iw (gain Kc, Kc, Iw) -> Cr (draw Kc x4, Iw x2, 7 buys and counting) -> Kc –> Kc -> Kc -> Kc
//(there is one Kc left in the supply, I have 9 triple actions; hand is Iw, Iw)
Iw (gain Kc, Iw, Iw) -> Iw (gain Iw, Iw, Nobs – draw Nobs) ->
//(all Kc & Iw in play)
Nobs (draw all) -> Kc -> Iw (gain Brg, Brg, Cr) -> Iw (gain mine, mine, mine) -> Iw (gain mine, mine, Tr) -> Iw (gain Tr, Tr, Nobs – draw Cr)
Cr (draw  Brg x2, Cr, Mine x5, Tr x3, Nobs; 10 buys) -> Brg (13 buys) -> Brg (16 buys, everything up to plat is free) -> Tr
//(last triple action)
Mine (2 C to Tali) -> Mine (2 C to Tali) -> Tr -> Mine (2 c to Tali) -> Tr – Mine (2 C to Tali) -> Mine (2 C to Tali)
//(Buy phase)
16 buys (everything is free) – Buy a cache (gain 9 caches with Talis, gain 20 C), buy 3 C (gain 30 C with Talis), buy 4 Silvers (gain 35 with Talis), 3 golds (gain 27 with talis), gain 2 plats (gain 13 with Talis) …
//13 buys used
For the heck of it:
Buy & gain all harems, royal seals, and banks

I had PMed Chameleon but I guess I'll post out here, too.

If I made no mistakes, this solves the hard mode of the puzzle.  There's also definitely still room for improving/tweaking.

C = Copper
E = Estate

A = Talisman
B = Bridge
H = Chancellor
I = Ironworks
K = King's Court
P = Peddler
U = Upgrade
R = Council Room
T = Throne Room
W = Watchtower

===
Turn 1
===

Draw CCCCE
Play CCCC
Buy I

===
Turn 2
===

Draw CCCEE
Play CCC
Buy H

===
Turn 3
===

Draw CCCIH
Play I for T
Play H, discarding
Play 3 C, buy R

===
Turn 4
===

Draw ITHRC
Play T on I, for B and W
Play R, drawing CCCC
Play H, discarding
Play CCCCC, buy K and P

===
Turn 5
===

Draw TKBIW.

Play T on K.
-1st K plays B
-2nd K plays I for KKI, revealing W and putting all on top.

Play W, drawing KKIRPH

hand: RPHKKI
deck: CCCCCCC EEE

Play K on K.
-1st K plays I for KKI
-2nd K plays R, drawing CCCCCCCEEEKI
-3rd K plays K

hand: PH CCCCCCC EEE I
deck: K

--1st K plays I for KRU
--2nd K plays P, drawing KKU
--3rd K plays K

hand: H CCCCCCC EEE KU
deck: R

---1st K plays U, turning CCC into III, drawing RII
---2nd K plays I, for IIU
---3rd K plays K

hand: H CCCC EEE RI
deck: IIIU

----1st K plays I, for KKR
----2nd K plays R, drawing KKRUIII
----3rd K plays K

hand: H CCCC EEE K RU III
deck:

-----1st K plays I, for KKU (emptying the K pile)
-----2nd K plays I, for IBB
-----3rd K plays K

hand: H CCCC EEE IUR
deck:  KKUIBB

------1st K plays U, turning EEE into AAA, drawing KKU
------2nd K plays U, turning CCC into AAA, drawing IBB
------3rd K plays K

hand: HC K R II BB
deck: AAA AAA

-------1st K plays I, for AAA
-------2nd K plays I, for ABB
-------3rd K plays K

hand: HC R BB
deck: AAA AAA AAA ABB

--------1st K plays R, drawing AAAAAAAAAABB
--------2nd K plays B
--------3rd K plays B

hand: HC AAAAAAAAAA BB
deck:

Play BB.  Play H.  Play C and AAAAAAAAAA.

We have played 11 Bridges, 9 Council Rooms, 10 Talismans.
Additional money comes from playing 3 Peddlers, playing Ironworks for 10 Talismans, playing a Chancellor, and playing a Copper.
Thus we have $37, 21 buys, everything costs $11 less, and we can gain 10 extra copies of each non-VP card bought.

Thus using 5+4+3+2=14 buys, we can buy out all the Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, respectively.

Game ends on piles:  King's Court, Talisman, Copper, Silver, Gold, Platinum

Thanks, it's always the simple things.

In that case then all you need to do is:
get rid of cache, it really just saves 1 buy

Minor nitpick:
  • When you say you have Iw/Iw/Cr/Kc in discard, it's actually Iw/Iw/Nobs/Kc

Bigger issues:
  • You used 11 King's Courts.  When you said there was 1 in supply, there was 0.
  • You used 12 Ironworks.
  • You somehow Mined 10 coppers, though you only had the starting 7

I suspect your solution can be fixed, but it would take some work...

Mine still stands though.   ;D    Someone should check it.

Also, you can't Mine Copper->Talisman, as Talisman costs 4.
