I personally see nothing wrong with opening games early. In fact I see a benefit to it and one that I have personally used.

Having multiple games open at a time allows players to have more choices in which games they can choose to play. For instance, while Grujah's XIII hydra game is cool and has an interesting mechanic, it wasn't really something that I was interested in participating in. However, if it was the only game available, I would have joined it to have something to play. But since Jorbles game was open instead, I joined that, because it looked like a game I was more interested in playing.

Multiple games open at a time allows players to be more selective in which games to play. If you want to play all the games, join all the games. If you don't want to play a certain game, don't play it.

Ozle, I would hope that my opening of MVI didn't cause you to to shut down your game. It appears that it did. If so I am sorry, and I hope that you will open it again as that was certainly not my intent. My intent was to allow players to have an opportunity to look at the game I am running and decide if it is something they want to play. If not enough players sign up, I'll either cancel it or modify it.

Sure it makes the que a little crowded and there is a delay in starting games, but I don't see that being a problem.

Hm, Does anyone mind me putting up the signups for my game? It won't start for a loooooooooong time (probably after Volt's is coming to a close) :P

What if we bumped newbie games to front of the queue as long as the majority of the players in them are actually newbies?

I think mafiascum actually recommends that about a third of players in newbie games actually be veterans so they can assist in educating the newbs on the basics (theory, terminology, rules, etc.) so Robz, and some other vets could take part in them if they wanted. This actually wouldn't draw much away from people trying to organize existing non-newbie games because the games bumped to the front would be full of people who by definition are not playing in the other ones (the newbs), and it would help build the population of players up so those other games can actually get going.

I suspect this may be the issue for Blitz III.

I am afraid so... I want to play in it, but my schedule is not one that would make that game enjoyable. I really enjoyed the first one... Perhaps over Christmas Break? But that is a long ways off... hopefully it will be Blitz V by that point.

Nope, no more games from me until it gets under control.

If people seriously think that the number of active games and sign ups is not affecting the running games then they are not reading.

How many lurkers in each game these days? From the viewing Ihave been doing, its at least 50%
And people in more than one game have to come in and read all of them because if they read one and reply and not the other, well thats going to get them voted for as lurker-scum!

I was also going to say it's your fault that you're not in 2.5 games, but I checked (the now-cancelled) ZM3, and you were signed up.

I'm still shocked it didn't go.  Such a great format.

Well, it's more like One and a half and a half, but the One is in night. So I have two half games which != enough.

I'm having a harder time enjoying games with confusing mechanics, and the switches, while logical in how they work, add so much confusion to the game.

I didn't understand why ZM3 had to go away either.  There isn't that much mafia going on.  ehalc's game is nearing the halfway point.  RobZ's game shouldn't count, BM6 is bastard, so nobody is taking it seriously, and jorbles game is also nearing halfway.  It's perfectly reasonable to think about starting another game around now.

The trouble with all the fancy theme games is once you have read the role pm then you are just left with normal mafia and funky ruleset

And with all new games pretty much been role madness, most with crazy made up roles it changes from the actual mafia game mechanic, you cannot analyse wagons or night actions

That's actually why I wanted to make mine (MXIV) Open, so players could still approach it like a normal mafia game, even if there were some weird mechanics. I'd recommend trying to make weird games Open if possible because it gives players more to analyze, and makes wagon/night action analysis actually possible to conduct. The only problem with this is you have to spend a lot of time thinking about every role/mechanic to make sure they don't schew the game strongly in favour of one team or another. I don't actually think this is a bad thing because that will force you to attempt to create a balanced game. This might require more vetting from experienced players/backup mods before game start, but I think that's a good thing.

I don't agree so many VT's in most normal games running and XV just makes everyone a little bit weaker.
