Scheme plus Wharf or Merchant Ship

Is this a real combo, or a "nombo"?  In general, Scheme lets you keep your Durations in play for four turns instead of two, making it even more likely that you'll find another Scheme to keep the duration going.

In this game, with just a single Scheme and Merchant Ship, I get a Merchant Ship in play on Turn 5, and with the exception of Turn 13, the MS would have never gone out of play until Turn 17 at the earliest.  The Scheme picks itself up until the Duration is ready to leave play, whereupon the Duration goes back in for two more turns, allowing you two chances to draw back your Scheme.

It seems like with Wharf this chain would be even easier to continue, since you are cycling your deck more quickly.

Oh man, someone needs to make a nombo.com that parodies zombo.com, where instead of the "you can do anything" message, it's a "you are doing nothing, you are wasting your time, that won't work", etc.

I think it works pretty well with merchant ship, though I'd be skeptical about wharf. The blind card draw means you can draw it dead, and wharfs +buy is going to want to have lots of money to use it on, so silver is probably preferable to scheme.

I'm guessing it's just too slow. You draw the scheme. It sits on top of your deck until you draw the wharf. Then you get some benefit two turns after you play the wharf. In the meantime you're not sure if you want any more terminals since you can expect the scheme to force a collision.

Scheme/Tactician is the one that seems to me like it crosses the line into combo territory, because you really can play Tactician basically every other turn the whole game with Scheme.

Anyone who doesn't understand that reference is either far too young or far, far too sheltered.

...or doesn't live in the US.

Sometimes visitors of an English-speaking forum automatically think everybody lives in the US.
And that Europe is a country. :)

I'm from the Netherlands and I know most US state capitals and a whole lot of the former presidents.  ;D

...or doesn't live in the US.

We can limit it to English speakers, but Internet memes know few geographical boundaries.

What that reference is.

Exactly this.  Next you'll be telling me people in EU don't know what LOLcats are (or image macros in general).

Well, it's made up of states, just like the USA!

They're not all states though, I thought a few of them had a different government type, but they're usually called and counted as states.

In the Netherlands we actually have Province (yes!) as the subtype. They have less authority than states and are basically useless. As there are only 12 of them, most problems can be solved at either the local or country level. Too bad we don't have Duchies; we do have a couple of Estates I guess...

Returning to the OP, I think the benefit of chaining Wharves consistently is worth the risk of drawing Scheme instead of Silver with the Wharves. I'd agree this needs further investigation though. Perhaps a simulation of Scheme + 2 Wharves + BM vs Wharves + BM? I think the timing of buying the scheme could be critical, of course.
