Circe
Action: $3
+2 Cards
Reveal your hand. Discard 2 victory cards. If you do, +2 Actions

Any thoughts? My friend came up with this one recently, and it has not yet been tested.

Can you pronounce it like Curse?

If so, then it's an ideal Wishing Well target: "I meant that one!"

I like it and don't think it's really gamebreaking which is also good.
Still it's got like a Pearl Diver feel about it. Never really bad, but never really good.
By the time you've got that VP density, it's already end game and do you really need to buy this card by that time?

It can be better for alternative VP strategies, Duke?

I don't think you need to reveal your hand though...

My guess is that it's not going to be useful most of the time. In a Big Money game, the probability of you having 2 Victory cards and 2 Actions (or 2 Victory cards and an Action that draws more cards) in your hand at the same time is pretty low. In an engine game, the fact that you have to discard the Victory cards makes it hard to chain.

I don't think you need to reveal your hand though...

Yeah, you do. Otherwise there's no way to keep you honest about the mandatory discard of 2 specific cards. Alternatively, it could be, "You may discard 2 Victory cards."

I think that's the suggestion though -- why is it mandatory to discard those two cards?  Maybe you don't even want two extra actions and would rather keep the extra cards (e.g. you already have one more action and Vault in hand).  Making it mandatory is an unnecessary restriction, and the phrasing "if you do..." implies that the intention is for it to be optional.

Moreover, I think other cards that have mandatory steps only force you to reveal if you can't meet the conditions.  The only example I can think of right now is Bureaucrat, where other players must place a VP card on top of their deck OR reveal a hand without VP.

What about just discarding one victory card instead of two for the actions? Just compare it to a vanilla village.

...and it seems that it's substantially better? But probably not broken.

It's just that it really sucks when you have no victory to discard, and therefore hard to have trust in it as a village unless you have a decent amount of victory cards.
In early game, you will must certainly get no use of the actions. In mid-game, you will most certainly not hit any victory, unless you're going dutchy/duke or buys victory cards in any way.

This is quite similar to Shanty Town, except the +2 Actions part is what depends on your hand. I think I would prefer Shanty Town in most cases.

Would it be broken if it were just "You may discard two cards"? This would make it like a discount Inn without the on-gain.

I think that would work if it was $4. Maybe it would work with three if you did some weak negative on-gain i.e. when you gain this, gain a Copper. Or just plain three...Only play-testing can tell...
