That might be better odds than if we actually try, no joke. I feel like town here at f.ds does worse than expected in setups with very few PRs, or situations where you at least get named townies.

Hello! I haven't played much Mafia on this site, but have already gained a reputation for being an absolutely terrible mafioso. With that in mind, I suggest you vote for me as part of the central coalition, on the grounds that if I do turn out to be scum, I will be easily spotted and disposed of.

Hello everyone! I'm actually playing the game, wheeeeeeeeee!

The coalition's a very strong mechanic, it basically just lets us win immediately if we guess correctly, and otherwise we immediately know we were wrong and can start thinking differently. That's how I've looked at it, at least.

it looks like i didn't include this in the ruleset for this game but i generally prohibit "provable randomness" such as the forum's dice tag. but randomization from some other source which is reported (without screencap or other proof like that) in this thread is fine

The list doesn’t count toward the vote count until you have 5, but surely you can add to it one at a time, no?

It seems like it’d be hard to produce a lot of informative discussion if no one is allowed to commit to any member of their coalition list until they’ve chosen all 5.

Wouldn't scum obviously want to do it too? I don't see a reason why anyone would prefer to not be in the coalition, regardless of alignment.

Yes I was being slightly facetious.

Otoh posting but not adding one’s self does maybe indicate excessive caution.

(Or just a completely understandable confusion about the mechanic that is in no way indicative of alignment.)

Is there a shortcut for abandoning your current coalition list to start a new one from scratch? Seems like that could come in handy if you're in a hurry to lock in a coalition, you need to remove people from your current list and you've lost track of who's on it (which is admittedly a lot of conditionals but each of them sounds pretty likely to happen individually).

I mean I think the most important thing is we have to agree to a coalition by the end, since not having one, we get no info. So I'd say we shold relativley quickly (within next few days) pick a something (random is fine) and agree to go with that if we don't get anything better.
