Weird Engine/Slog kingdom I just played

City Quarter, Inn, Village Green, Witch, Hunting Grounds, Sculptor, Vagrant, Lurker, Menagerie, Market Square, Save, Invest

Lots of engine components, but also decks that will obviously fill up with junk with no way to get rid of it.

I think I opened Invest (Witch)/Silver.

Centuries later, archaeologists discover the remains of your ancient civilization.

Evidence of thriving towns, Pottery, roads, and a centralized government amaze the startled scientists.

Finally, they come upon a stone tablet, which contains but one mysterious phrase!

'ISOTROPIC WILL RETURN!'

Lurker+Hunting Grounds is a centralizing combo that overshadows everything else on that board.

Yeah, that's what I went for. (After the diversion at the start where both players got two Witches and pummelled each other's decks with Curses.)

Witch isn't remotely worth skipping a Lurker buy here. The only interesting question is whether it is useful to Invest in a Lurker. I tend towards no.

Optimal Lurker/Hunting Grounds strat according to sims:
Open Invest/Lurker
When buying Lurker, immediately discard Lurker from Exile. Keep buying Invest on Lurker.

Action phase:
Lurker and trash Hunting Grounds into Duchy/into Estates when Duchy empty

This strategy wins 46% - 42% in the mirror where opp doesn't Invest.

The mirror match averages 6.6 turns. First player advantage is huge: 55% - 33%

Adding Witch or other stuff plummets the win rate

Does it matter if you delay the Invest buy to T2? The board has Save, so this is possible usually (unless you get 5/2). In a mirror, a T1 Invest means that your first shuffle doesn't have any Lurkers.
