Capitalism + Enchantress + Highwayman

Suppose my opponent plays both Enchantress and Highwayman on their turn and I have Capitalism. Now, the first card I play in my turn is, let's say, a Market. This would be affected by both Enchantress (being the first Action card I played) and Highwayman (being the first Treasure card I played). What happens?

My thinking is that I get to resolve the order of Enchantress and Highwayman, which would have the effect of letting me choose which effect actually happens. So presumably I'd choose whichever order lets me get the Enchantress option, so that I'd get the normal +1 Card +1 Action, and now if my second card is another Market, it has its usual effect

Is this an accurate understanding?

Scared that answering this question may require a full understanding of this discussion: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=21600.0.

Indeed both trigger at the same time and you should get to choose the order. I think you're right that you can get the cantrip, by choosing Enchantress to happen last first. You're definitely right that it wouldn't affect the second card you play on a turn.

You could also ask about Crown instead of Capitalism.

Yes, correct. The relevant rulings are here: https://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=21600.msg900488#msg900488
In that discussion, in the end, Highwayman and Enchantress stayed as they had been, meaning they trigger normally and you choose which to apply first, which is the one that "wins", just like you said. What ended up being different was how Ways work. It's not really clear how they work formally, but when it comes to interactions with Enchantress and Highwayman it's the same: you get to choose (with the exception of Way of the Chameleon).

It's the one you choose to apply first the one that wins? I had that wrong. Is that because both of them only do anything when you would follow instructions, and both of them replace following instructions? So after you apply one, the other has nothing to do?

Also, am I right that Highwayman has been ruled to really mean: "the first time each other player plays a Treasure card on each turn, they do nothing instead of following its instructions"?

I had originally been reading a stronger meaning into it, that it would prevent you from doing things such as choosing to override its own text with Enchantress or Ways, because taken literally it says that the card "does nothing", but I'm pretty sure I was already shown to be wrong about that.

Yes, that's right. I hadn't noticed that you wrote it the other way.
It's the same when two Enchantresses are in effect: the second one doesn't replace the first one; it does nothing because you're not following the instructions anymore.

Also, am I right that Highwayman has been ruled to really mean: "the first time each other player plays a Treasure card on each turn, they do nothing instead of following its instructions"?

Yes, Donald X. has always said that Highwayman works exactly like Enchantress (except it makes you do nothing instead of cantrip of course), and that hasn't changed.
