Tools + Hireling is a really weird combo. As soon as any player has played Hireling, Tools becomes a Hireling-gainer!

Wow, I'm always surprised at how there are always more elegant card designs that haven't been explored yet.

I have to say I was pretty confused by Maelstrom at first though.  I assumed "one of them" referred to one of the cards you trashed, like it was some kind of Raider variant, but that seemed really weird.  Eventually I figured it out.  Is it just me, or is the wording kind of ambiguous?

(just like KC-Goons-Masqurade pins almost never happened in actual games).

Depends on what you mean by "actual games". IRL full-random games? Sure. But it was a big meta on Isotropic back then. And Goons wasn't necessary; just any discard attack.

Mining Village + Horn of Plenty is a great combo if you've got enough variety in play. You can even get a Province for the price of a Duchy that way!

That was my first thought too. My second thought was "or reveals they can't" is missing. Only after that I got it.

Although using Mining Village's ability to trash itself makes it harder to have enough variety in play.

Great art on some of these, especially the hobbit-house looking mining road. Maelstrom is interesting as a sometimes-attack, but always useful to the person who bought it.
