If I have an Overlord in my hand and someone gains a treasure, Can I play the Overlord as a Pirate and play it immediately so I get a gold in my hand on my turn?

Could you please explain why or why not.

Overlord doesn't have a reaction that lets you play it when another player gains a treasure, how are you going to play it as a Pirate?

I'm making some assumptions about the scenario here such as this happening when its not your turn, which you weren't specific about.

No. Overlord is a normal action, and does not have any special rules that allow it to imitate the reaction of another card. It just so happens that the ability that happens when you play Overlord is to then play another action card from the Supply (this was a bit different in the original printing of Overlord, but that doesn't matter here). Overlord doesn't automatically "take on" the attributes of cards in the Supply, so you can only play it like normal when it is your turn and you have an action available.

That's not relevant though, you can't do it on your own turn either for exactly the same reason.

Ah, yes. It makes sense that you can't play the Overloard as a Pirate Reaction.. The Overlord can play an action, not a reaction.

Why can't you play the Overlord on your turn as a Pirate? The Overlord is an action and you are playing the Pirate as an action so you get the gold on your next turn.

You can; you'll get the gold next turn as normal. Awaclus was saying that you can't use the Reaction whether it's your own turn or not.

Ah, yes. It makes sense that you can't play the Overloard as a Pirate Reaction.. The Overlord can play an action, not a reaction.

More accurately, there is no rules distinction between what part of Pirate's text is the "Action" and what is the "Reaction". The entire card is always both an Action and a Reaction (and also a Duration). When you are playing an Overlord, such as during your Action phase by spending an action as per the rules of the game, you can use it to play a Pirate from the supply — Pirate is an Action and is not a Command, and it being other types in addition to Action doesn't stop that from working. When you do that, the Overlord plays a Reaction, because it plays a Pirate, and Pirate is always a Reaction.

The reason why what you're trying to do doesn't work is that Pirate's below-the-line ability lets you play it from your hand; it does not let you play cards other than itself from your hand, the Overlord that you do have in your hand is an Overlord, not a Pirate, and Overlord does not have any special abilities that let you play it at unusual times like when someone is gaining a Treasure. This is always true regardless of whose turn it is.
