I mean, if we are listing out features, a discord server for managing the private conversations would allow:
- Restrict visibility of private channels (not just who can read it, but who can even see that it exists), so private messages are good.
- Channels can be sorted into groups for easy navigation (All threads related to each game can be grouped together and completely hidden if you aren't involved; I imagine this would be nice for the QoL of mods)
- Unlimited (or at least practically unlimited) post history
- Timestamped posts
- Can restrict edit permissions
- Can't change or spoof who posted what
- No limitations on # of people in a channel (ala speccy problem of chatzy)
- All you need is a free email account to sign up for a free discord account (technically less restrictive than having to have a gmail account)
- You can access discord through a browser, desktop application, or mobile app.
- You can manage notifications on a per channel basis
The one big con I can see that I just thought of is that the server creator has permanent visibility on every channel, so either someone would need to use an alt account or have a friend outside of our mafia community host the server. I guess I need to double check to make sure someone who is able to create new channels and manage them (in order to mod, unless we just have someone that is willing to do the channel setup for game mods) would be able to still have other channels hidden from them so they can play as well.
