Trap kingdom?

Adventurer, Crossroads, Feast, Fishing Village, Great Hall, Moneylender, Scheme, Throne Room, Village, and Workshop

This kingdom came up in the latest tournament. Are there any strategies here or is everything a trap (unless you get lucky buying golds)?

Scheme/Moneylender maybe?  I dunno, this is a pretty weird set of cards.

Maybe I've just been playing too much of the unofficial app, but Moneylender/Gold/Adventurer seems plausible.

You know what would be funny?

A Crossroads/Feast/Duchy deck powered by Workshopping for Feasts and Fishing Villages.

You know what would probably be better?

Something like Moneylender-BM

Idk, I don't see anything else, especially with no +Buy.

It's criminally sad when Fishing Village appears with no drawing cards. There isn't even an extra buy to make some sort of crazy Moneylender + Fishing Village + Adventurer combo worthwhile.

Probably Moneylender/Big Money. So sad.

Crossroads/Great Hall/Feast/Duke doesn't seem bad at all. Maybe even a Workshop or two in there.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/23/game-20120323-215833-27b550b0.html

One test game of Moneylender-BM to 4 Provinces.

4 Provinces 1 Duchy in 16 turns

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/23/game-20120323-215726-a0becece.html

One test game of Crossroads/Duchy/Workshop/whatever random stuff I felt like picking up.

4 Provinces 2 Duchies 2 Great Halls in 15 turns.

There's some nice luck in the 2nd log (TR-Crossroads with 4 victory cards in hand), so idk if this proves anything. But it's interesting!

Isn't straight Moneylender-BM worse than BMU?

They're neck and neck 46-46 on whatever version of the simulator it is that I have, which has an optimized BMU bot and a computer generated single-Moneylender bot, which leads me to believe that with some optimization, Moneylender will win. Just.

No, Straight Moneylender-BM beats BMU roughly 50/41 (In Geronimoo's).

Also, I feel like going Moneylender/Silver into Scheme/Adventurer (with Fishing Village or maybe Crossroads support). With a little bit of luck (and a few tests) it was able to grab 4 Provinces by turn 12, although the average is a bit higher than that. Getting an early 6 coin hand with this set seems pretty significant.

Well yes, moneylender+treasure beats pure treasure, great halls + treasure is better than estates + treasure, and you can even put them together. However is there anything that can be a called a significant strategy?

Workshop to pick up some Crossroads and Great Halls behind an otherwise BM based strategy?

Optimize play of this and I'm confident it beats BMU and probably BMU moneylender

Instinctively something like this would be my view.

This would be a very good candidate for Ozle's Solo challenges. I'm sure with optimal play the Workshop-Crossroads deck is going to crush Big Money.

Personally I'd probably open Moneylender/Silver, transitioning into Adventurer (with Schemes if the buys line up in midgame). I think the timing of when to buy the Adventurer is a bit tricky, but this style of deck is going to have an easy time consistently picking up Provinces in the late game.

I can see the appeal of Workshop/Great Hall/Crossroads, but it seems like a lot of work for a bunch of 1 point cards and doesn't build up any economy. I don't think it would beat Moneylender into Adventurer. Especially if your opponent isn't helping you end it on piles.

I think you're thinking Moneylender's more versatile standin, Spice Merchant, which I think has more engine potential, but less raw $s.
