lespeutere vs Geronimoo 4-3-0 in my favour, i.e. 8 points for me, 6 for Geronimoo
(he'd had some beers, i'm not sure what 'some' means from a Belgian perspective)
Actually it was only 1 beer, but Duvel is quite a strong ale! I didn't think it would make me play worse.

We both open ambassador, he with bureaucrat, I add a moneylender, figuring that an early lab might be of great help. It turns out I was right, I add a moat when i have 2 and everything aligns very nicely. I felt pretty lucky but still I feel amb/moneylender > amb/bureaucrat. Geronimoo tries something with alchemists but resigns when I have 4 provinces after 16 turns.

There's KC, market, hunting party, council room, remake, militia. I start militia/silver to get KC early. It doesn't work out while he manages to get one early with a remake/silver start. I go for HP then which Geronimoo ignores. He gets 2 provinces then, me 2 the following turn, as well. While he gets only one then, I manage to take the remaining 3 with remaking a KC into a province.

Wow, I guess that one beer did cloud my judgment and I played these first two games horribly.

Sea hag/silver for both of us. We then go for traders but mine does not come together with estates until late. Geronimoo turns it into a councilroom assisted BM style game while I lurk around with some villages to assist my CR. Well, he does know how to play BM, does he?
By this time I've regained my composure and I'm on familiar ground with this board: both decks get filled with junk from Sea Hag and like is often the case the best way to salvage your deck is to just buy lots of money and keep things fairly simple. Once I have a bit of money I grab a few Council Rooms while my opponent goes for a Village-Council Room engine. Big Money wins!

I go for the gardens rush while Geronimoo goes for tournaments and provinces, with a little lookout assistance. I figure even followers might not be a threat to me. Well, if he had not taken the 8th gardens, it might have been even closer. I'm not sure whether trusty steed and followers would've been my first choices, too, but it's good enough to take the win.
I played this far from perfect but I think my choice of Tournament over Gardens rushing was correct.

FV/chapel start for both, I have an early lead with a ghost ship in turn 6 but then I fail to keep this lead due to some festival buys when I have 4 FV, he 6. I guess I coul've tried to go for provinces earlier but still I'm not sure whether it would've ended much better. Eventually Geronimoo is able to make use of HoP while my engine struggles to keep going.
I fall behind early on because he has gets a fast Steward while I decide to buy out the FV's first. His drawing power is clearly superior for a while and I think he could have held on to his lead if he had played this slightly different.

Bishop/chapel start for both of us. He gets a second bishop without +actions while I get some money first, being first to get to the golden deck with 2 gold, 1 silver, bishop. He then just skips his turns to let me get all the remaining provinces to tie the match.
When both players go for the Golden deck first player advantage should be massive and I probably misplayed a little here getting a second Bishop hoping to gain an edge with it in VP-tokens.

Only time we have different starting hands. There is workshop and gardens and he mentions having 5/2. I, however, do not think it's such bad as I estimate joat/chapel being faster. So we both start joat/chapel. He commented 'interesting' on my chapel buy in turn 1, I'm not sure whether he still considered going workshop -> gardens with joat assistance. I add a wishing well which helps me get through my deck fast especially in the beginning. I buy one gold and start with provinces then. Although I have less silvers and gold (he buys 2 of his 4 in the final turns) I manage to keep the lead starting with duchies when I have a 3-2 province lead. Then I buy prov 4 and stay in the lead as I stay being able to buy duchies and then gardens when we split duchies 4-4. He's 7 points behind due to an estate buy and without +buy he can't overtake me. He then ends it with 3 remaining estates bybuying the last province.
The only game I felt I got a little unlucky but maybe Cartographer was a mistake (Silver instead?)

Next time, no Duvels! I'll keep it to non-alcoholic drinks like milk, orange juice or Heineken...

Next time, no Duvels! I'll keep it to non-alcoholic drinks like milk, orange juice or Heineken...

I don't like telling this joke because I don't like Guinness, but here goes nothing:

After a major brewery convention, each of the big brewery presidents go out to a bar together.

The Budweiser president says, "Give me a Budweiser - The King of Beers!"

The Coors president says, "Give me a Coors, the only beer made with Rocky Mountain spring water!"

The Guinness president says, "I'll just have a Coke."

The Budweiser president laughs.  "What's the matter, not a fan of your own beer?"

The Guinness president says, "Well, I figured if you guys aren't drinking, neither should I."

We have the same joke over here but it's with a guy from Cologne (where they drink Kölsch), one from Düsseldorf (Alt) and the Ruhr area (Pils).

Rabid 4 - MrEevee 3   (8 - 6)

A really close match, I went 0-3 down, then my luck improved and I managed the 4-0 comeback.

Game 1

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-114402-0fb0ac74.html
Adventurer, Bureaucrat, Contraband, Feast, Highway, Horse Traders, Potion, Remodel, Thief, Throne Room, and Transmute
49 MrEevee, Bureaucrat / Silver
37 Rabid, Contraband / nothing
(Maybe remodel would be better here, in an attempt to stop getting hit by Bureaucrat?)

We were tied at 37 all with only 2 prov no other VPs remaining.
Both added remodels to try for the last provs. I lost the race.

Game 2

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-120510-d88e014e.html
Bazaar, Cartographer, Chapel, Council Room, Goons, Militia, Thief, Throne Room, Treasury, and Woodcutter

74 Rabid Chapel / Silver
121 Me Eevee Chapel / Militia

We both go for Chapel into council room / bazaar / TR / Goons
The early Militia misses, and I think I am ahead in the midgame.
Turn 16 mistake from MrEevee (buying 2nd to last bazaar & 2nd to last goons), gives me a chance to 3 pile with 5 buys + $22, I get to $21 and loose.

Game 3
MrEevee Wins IGG game on Provinces Missing log sorry.

Game 4

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-122013-b7a7febd.html
Adventurer, Bureaucrat, Council Room, Cutpurse, Feast, Ill-Gotten Gains, Militia, Moat, Oasis, and Trader

34 Rabid (Trader Silver)
25 MrEevee (Trader Silver)

I think this is just a 1st player win for me.

Game 5

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-122625-5a2b2577.html
Bank, Festival, Golem, Militia, Mine, Monument, Nobles, Potion, Spy, Village, and Witch

38 MrEevee (Silver / Monument)
47 Rabid (Silver, Militia)

Racing for Witch In this game, Militia seemed like the better opening to me.
Although Monument can be really good in some long curse games.
Another very close game, Monument + Prov on the penultimate turn would have won it, but only got to $6, and I have the $8 for the win.

Game 6

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-123746-bfb69951.html
Chancellor, Council Room, Feast, Inn, Library, Lighthouse, Sea Hag, Spy, Thief, and Young Witch ( Tunnel♦ )

20 MrEevee (Silver / SeaHag)
31 Rabid (Tunnel / YoungWitch)

Hardest opening of the match I think.
MrEevee buys Tunnel on Turn 4, and has it in hand on Turn 5 to Bane my Turn 4 attack.
I loose the curse split 7-1 but I think the tunnels slow down MrEevee as much as the curses slow me, and I get some free golds from discarding tunnels.

Game 7

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-124733-35ea44c9.html
Baron, Cellar, Feast, Library, Militia, Moneylender, Salvager, Spy, Tournament, and Trading Post

35 MrEevee (Trading Post / Cellar)
45 Rabid (Baron / Silver)

My Baron behaves, appearing with Estates the first 4 times I draw it.
Another close game, Eevee could win with the last prov, but on the 2nd try I get $8 and the match.

Thanks for the match MrEevee, good luck next round.

Kirian wins 4-3-0 vs. elahrairah13

The best thing about tournament series, in my opinion, is that almost without exception people are willing to chat with one another.  It's something that often gets missed on Isotropic, and I'm always glad to have that.  Interesting general thought:  anyone else get the feeling the base cards were mostly not useful in these games?

elahrairah13 29-24 Kirian:  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-191326-3ec0b3b1.html

Elah remarked that it was ironic that in a base-themed set we had so many non-base cards in the Black Market.  Lab, Witch, and NV make the engines, but in the end elah's Ambassador pull from the BM probably wins this; it effected a two-point swing and a six-card swing (trash cards that is).

elahrairah13 29-48 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-192004-ed7180ee.html

University and Merchant Ship dominate here, with only Throne Room and Moneylender from the base set providing any support.  I green three turns earlier, forcing elah to Duchy-dance with little hope of catching up.

elahrairah13 36-49 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-192610-74cd35c3.html

Embassy is really powerful.  You probably knew that.  Buying a Mint to clear 5 Coppers wasn't a game-winner alone, but it sure helped.  I think elah's T14 Duchy was a mistake; only 3 Provinces were gone and he was about to reshuffle what could have been a Festival or Embassy.

elahrairah13 38-27 Kirian:  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-193501-17c56b66.html

Elah's T3 Gold from Militia catapults him a bit at the start, and I think this one was very luck-defined.  No major fumbles I can see on either side.

elahrairah13 25-36 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-194030-9c3dbb5d.html

Library > Laboratory in Big Money, unless you have a lot of Labs.

elahrairah13 29-39 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-194605-dea54697.html

Remodel is the lynchpin of this game; turning Estates into Farming Villages means I got a slower start, but FV/Wharf pays big dividends in the endgame, with a Gold->Province Remodel as the kicker.

elahrairah13 35-22 Kirian:  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-195227-74ba74cd.html

I fail at playing IGG, perhaps because I hate the rush feeling of it.  The best play here was likely for both of us to skip Chapel, but it's just so tempting.  Elah does only a little bit of Chapelling, preferring to get Silvers, which boosts him to his first IGG.  I have a brain fart and somehow think that dumping my IGGs with Chapel will help.  It didn't work so well.

A great match, thanks elah!

My take:

elahrairah13 29-24 Kirian:  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-191326-3ec0b3b1.html

Ambassador is a good card, but I don't have good stats with it. In other words, I get outplayed on it.
Best way to not get outplayed on it? Have the only one. Lucky Black Market draw.

elahrairah13 29-48 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-192004-ed7180ee.html

University and Merchant Ship dominate here, with only Throne Room and Moneylender from the base set providing any support.  I green three turns earlier, forcing elah to Duchy-dance with little hope of catching up.
I lacked a clear strategy here, and in hindsight wish I had just done something like Merchant Ship + Big Money. It may not have won, but at least it would have been a coherent strategy.

elahrairah13 36-49 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-192610-74cd35c3.html

Yeah, crappy impulsive purchase. Especially bad buy in front of a reshuffle.

elahrairah13 38-27 Kirian:  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-193501-17c56b66.html

Elah's T3 Gold from Militia catapults him a bit at the start, and I think this one was very luck-defined.  No major fumbles I can see on either side.
Seeing Province 8, Bank 7, Gold 6, Library 5, Militia 4 and remembering the recent Dominion Strategy thread on Develop, I picked one up hoping to do some neat things. I did turn a Gold into a Bank and a Library on turn 15 (and I'm sure it's been talked about, but Library + Bank is pretty powerful, probably even more so after being Militiaed and you can trim down to just treasures).
But yeah, I do think this was mostly just getting lucky with $6 before the second shuffle.

elahrairah13 25-36 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-194030-9c3dbb5d.html

Library > Laboratory in Big Money, unless you have a lot of Labs.
Library is a weak spot for me (I have awful stats on it). I didn't figure out how to play it right during my learning curve of this game, and started ignoring it beyond the reaction to Militia we saw in the last game.

elahrairah13 29-39 Kirianhttp://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-194605-dea54697.html

Remodel is the lynchpin of this game; turning Estates into Farming Villages means I got a slower start, but FV/Wharf pays big dividends in the endgame, with a Gold->Province Remodel as the kicker.
When you first started Remodeling, I knew it would be the difference one way or another. Unfortunately (for me) you knew what you were doing.

elahrairah13 35-22 Kirian:  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-195227-74ba74cd.html

Kinda crazy kingdom. Bank, Possession, Witch... but IGG jumps to the head of the line.
I might not have picked up a Chapel if you hadn't. But I didn't want to overlook something, and it seemed like a reasonable way to clean up Curses and extra coppers (coppers are listed as an asset in Duchy chases, but I figured dumping one any time I had $4 and planned on buying a silver might help me more than hurt).
I think it helped me get to Provinces on Turns 10 and 11 (although I was actually a little hesitant about falling behind the IGG rush... anyone want to weigh in on whether this was the right move?), although the extra coppers I got in those turns from the IGGs did slow down my Duchy pursuit later. I won the IGG split 6-4.

The best thing about tournament series, in my opinion, is that almost without exception people are willing to chat with one another.  It's something that often gets missed on Isotropic, and I'm always glad to have that.  Interesting general thought:  anyone else get the feeling the base cards were mostly not useful in these games?
A great match, thanks elah!
Wanted to pull in your opening comments to acknowledge it was real neat to play a designed 7 game series with someone and converse a bit over the stretch of games. I was a little amused to find myself actually nervous about this whole thing, didn't want to be some kind of 0-7 pushover. But it was indeed fun (and I do think it's going to improve my game more than just playing 7 random games on iso would).
And yeah, with a few exceptions I think we'll see most games this week turn on non-base cards.
Thanks for the games!

Nothing too special here, 5-2 makes it pretty hard for Rabid. I generally love bureaucrat, this was no exception. I think both my strategy and actual gameplay were good here.

Turn 16 mistake from MrEevee (buying 2nd to last bazaar & 2nd to last goons), gives me a chance to 3 pile with 5 buys + $22, I get to $21 and loose.

Militia was no good this time, figured it might be super helpful with slowing down Rabid's chapeling. If I think I played the last game well, here I made at least 2 stupid gameplay mistakes which shouldnt really happen (chapeling my only silver away on turn 15 when it was pretty clear I'd start most of the turns with 3 cards i got to pick from 7 so the extra silver didnt really make it at all harder to get through my deck) and ofc almost allowing Rabid to end it on piles for the win. This was obviously a lot closer than the numbers suggest.

Game 3
MrEevee Wins IGG game on Provinces Missing log sorry.
Interesting sidenote, IGG-rush ended with IGG's, curses and provinces gone (only one duchy and
one estate left too i think). This was just first player and drawing well enough to match Rabid's provinces.

Game 4

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-122013-b7a7febd.html

Was actually surprised I lost this one (seemingly clearly too), after falling behind a bit in economy in the beginning I was able to turn the curses Rabid's IGG handed into silvers on both turn 11 and turn 12 (having two traders to Rabid's one clearly helped). I guess Rabid's economy was just too good, but the province-blitz was certainly a surprise.

Game 5

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-122625-5a2b2577.html

Curious about this, do other people agree with Rabid on militia being preferable to monument here? Militia actually helps me sum with terminal collision and more importantly with no trashing I'll be discarding curses and estates for the most part. Monument however produces oh so valuable victory points and can really help me in the end game if it gets very drawn out.

Game 6

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-123746-bfb69951.html

Clearly outplayed here, I did know tunnel-young witch is killer good, apparently it is even when it cant hand out curses. It has to be somewhat terrible shuffle luck too to reach 5 only once before turn 21 but my strategy here was just sad. An early inn would have helped me tremendously, so in hindsight using my only 5 to grab a lighthouse doesnt feel too good either. Nice game by Rabid.

Game 7

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-124733-35ea44c9.html

Didnt really like my 5-2, baron comboes super well with tournament. Wound up getting really lucky to hit the first prize, couldnt make the game long enough for followers to turn it around.  Not that happy with my play here, playing cellar and discarding one on turn 13 made my followers miss the next shuffle which was just absolutely terrible. Should stop making these mistakes, especially in tournament matches.

Thanks for the match MrEevee, good luck next round.
Rabid was a super nice opponent, lots of close and interesting games. Good luck next round for you too!

So, haven't gotten hold of my opponent, who seems to have been inactive for a while. (And haven't said anything before now, because this has been the busiest, craziest, most hectic week of my life. Apologies)

Took me a minute to figure it out, but i think the ,5 means .5 points meaning there was a tie. So multiply the 4,5 and 2,5 and they get their final points.... 9-5. Sorry if i am intruding on something not my business

Yes. I also mean to do more vids in general at some point, just like I said, life is crazy right now.

This is right. Most places in the world use commas where we're used to seeing decimal points, and periods where we're used to seeing commas.
