I also figured that going for apoth golem would lose me the minion war and with goons on board we'd end up buying coppers. So why not use that? Secret chamber helped me cycle my deck, it came up every time minion or goons was played(just about every turn from midgame) and let me a: put my good cards back to the next hand for the almost inevitable minion discard b:chuck my coppers and regain them with apoth c: chuck my action cards when I had golems in hand and no actions in deck d: get 1 point for each card in hand and throw out the whole hand with minion.
I'm still not sure if winning this one was luck or strategy. Any comments?
