I don't pick the even number: I just check all words and add up the number of words that satisfy it (that have an even number of consonants), and that number must be even.

I guess "the number of words that have an even number of consonants is even" is more correct.

 whereas I read it as

if the number of words in the question is even, then the question is true iff the number of vowels is odd; otherwise, the question is true iff the number of consonants is even

I definitely don't design rules with dictionary words in mind. I prefer this version of the game, but you can create your thread if you want.
