Three custom card idea - Investment, Assassin, Concubine

Just trying to toy with some new ideas...

Investment
Cost: 4
Treasure
Worth $4
When you gain Investment, put it on your Investment mat.
When a player gains a Province, trash all Investment from the supply. Each players shuffle their Investment cards from their Investment mat to their decks, then remove all Investment mat from the game.

Just like in real life, you invest, wait, and one day it will pay off. I have tried with different cost, but found that $3 or $4 is the best as $5 for a delayed effect is too much a commitment. Not sure if the $4 - $4 ratio is the best though.

Assassin
Cost: $6
Action - Attack
Each other players discard an action card, or reveal their hands with no actions. You may play a discarded card among them. If no player discards a card, +1 card, +1 action, +$2

In boards that provides strong attack Assassin is often a good buy, and it is never dead - it is a Grand Market when it isn't working. The best defense is probably spamming your decks with low-cost actions.

Concubine
Cost: $5
Action - Reaction
Discard your hand. If you discarded a card this way, +$5
When another player gains a Province, you may trash this card from your hand. If you do, gain a Province, put it on your top of your deck.

This card is centered around Duchy and Province in general - Every plays of Concubine guarantee you a Duchy. I've thought of gaining Duchies as the reaction part, but it seems week, but gaining a Province seems a bit strong, so I have the Province putting it on top of the deck. If it still feels too strong, the bonus can always be Duchy + something, or even Gold.
Feel free to comment on these cards!  :)

Assassin will cause unfun and degenerate games where the first player to get his Assassins going will lock the others out of any meaningful strategy.

Seems very interesting. Producing 4 Coins seems high, but the payoff should be high if you're spending $4 for no immediate benefit.

Like Jack Rudd said, this is not a good idea. The defense is not to load up on cheap Action cards. The defense is to buy no Action cards at all and play an often dull Treasure-only strategy. At the very least, the attack shouldn't stack with itself. It should probably only hit players with at least 5 cards in hand. Even with that fix, though, it promotes boring games.

Gaining a Province is too strong, even if it goes onto your deck. I honestly don't think the Duchy gain by itself is too weak at all. It's a pretty sizable benefit if the game is at its Province-buying stage. As for the Action effect, it's hard to see how it will play out. It seems somewhat interesting.

It's worth noting that as written, this has a screwy/broken interaction with Thief. I'm not sure what to do about that.

Hmm... you gain it from Thief and are told to put it into your Investment mat, which you can't because there is no mat, so you can't do that, and it goes in your discard pile. Is that wrong?

More important is it's interaction with Royal Seal and Watchtower.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

Possible solution: Remove the mat entirely.  Have it be worth $4 if someone has purchased a Province, $1 otherwise.  The "trash all supply" rule could still be there, if desired.

I like this solution, and I like the card. What else is there to say? But buying investments would slow down your deck, and if everyone did that you would have a very long game. Even if no attacks were played. Cool stuff.

I know it would never work, but I feel like Concubine should gain you a Harem.

With "trash all supply," buying a Province would be a great way to initiate a 3-pile by buying one Province to empty an entire pile.

Buy a province, trash the Investments, power up your cities. Seems like cool synergy.

I feel like investment should trigger on either a Province or a Colony being gained.

But then, would it be weird for a card to refer to another card that might not be in the game?

to fix the thief interaction just change:
'when you gain investment from the supply, put it on your investment mat'
that should fix thief issues.

and put it whereever

Apprentice refers to Potions.

Technically Apprentice doesn't refer to the card Potion, but rather to potion costs which occur in some kingdom cards (there are ten of these).  It is of course, entirely possible that potion costs are not in the game.  However, I don't think this is that different than referring than cards like Moat referring to "attacks" (which could be absent from the board).  Alchemist does refer to Potion, however, but Potion happens to be included in all games with Alchemist.
