A magic deck composition?

In this game, I basically just played masquerade +BM, with a library thrown in the mix. I think I am doing okay, hitting 4 Provinces in 13 turns with 2 duchies.

However, I was completely tromped by my opponent. I am not familiar with his strategy... maybe it is library+lighthouse? an upgrade is in his deck too. He got 4 Provinces... in 10 turns.

That's comedy.

Simulations suggest opening Upgrade/Lighthouse is quite strong. Not Masquerade strong though! It should get beaten by it 60-30 (with allfail playing first).

Hehehe.

Luck, screwing people over since 2 Million BC!  ;)

(That's when they played Stone Age, of course).

I was the other player.

There's no doubt in my mind that allfail should have won here.  I told him after the game I thought he would have won 9 times out of 10.  There was no magic deck composition here.  I just couldn't have hit the cards I did with better timing.  Even his Masquerade gave me a little boost.

I hope I don't seem like I'm boasting.  I had a few long and frustrating games last night, so the quick win with excellent luck cheered me up a lot.  I have no misconceptions about our relative skills.

In my opinion, you DO have a misconception about our relative skills: I don't feel I have played better in any way, especially in this particular game. Level, as good as it sounds, does not really reflect skills.

As far as I can remember, I have never seen a treasure-oriented strategy ends up with 4 Provinces in 10 turns before. That is really remarkable for me. And I cannot help but wonder maybe there is more to it than pure luck. I don't know, judging from the discussion here maybe not so much; I'll keep an eye on these cards though.

Level does indeed not always imply skill.

Hell, I played on BSW yesterday just to change things up a bit and found that my opponent was aware of the PPR and buying Provinces instead of the penultimate Colony and other strong moves! I was so shocked to find this level of play on BSW so I asked him if he played on Iso and he had never even heard of it! So I proposed him to go play there and visit these forums. :)

His nick on BSW was Jeff8, I wonder if I may meet him again on Iso some day.  ;D

Edit: Apparently, he really did start playing and already lvl 12, go Jeff (Councilroom)
