At the same time, SA, the pledge requires you to assume good-faith on the part of your fellow players.
I assume good faith and ignorance on Jake's part. He wasn't even here when I first joined the forum. I died N1 in my first game, and nobody had even gendered me at all by that point... which was fine by me :-P
There is precedent for the mod stepping in -- Haddock did so in BSG when it was getting out of hand and the offenders didn't seem to be taking it seriously. In a more direct approach, a couple of mods have stepped in to edit incorrect posts made by other players, and for the record, I appreciate that :-) I think giving people a clear, firm example is the best way to make it less awkward for everyone. I just don't always have the energy to get into a debate on my right to use singular they when I'm also trying to hunt scums or something... and I don't like having to pick one over the other.
Frequent offenders (not Jake) have made excuses like "well, pretty much everyone here is a he", so I'm not making up wild accusations there. Attitudes like that are
not the way to build an inclusive community, and goodness knows inclusivity is something the world needs more of today :-)
PPE a bunch. Good, back to the game now!
