The one where I win with a counting house + Stone mason + Hamlet + philosopher's stone technique.

How did you think I played? Was it the correct decision?

There's a perfectly good Conspirator chain there basically begging to be set up. You have Port and Hamlet for +Actions and +Buy, Counterfeit to trash, Gear for additional draw if you need it, and Stonemason to quickly gain a bunch of Conspirators. There's even Warehouse to sift when you start greening. I wouldn't have even considered the sloggier strategy here.

I strongly doubt that the is the dominant strategy here. The engine is so strong on this board. A decently executed Conspirator chain should win.

Not to mention Expedition, which should really help getting those 2 actions in play before your first Conspirator.

Well, the opponent tried the conspirator engine, but, well, it didn't pan out.

But the idea is thus that I got lucky? Which is very plausible, of course.

The idea is that your opponent played badly. The game lasted longer than it should have. Also he opens Silver/Port, which is plain awful. I would get Conspirator on $4 and Expedition on $3, trying to get a Counterfeit ASAP.

Opponent playing badly = luck (in my book).

Ok, got it.

Also, I think even Gear/BM should beat what you did.

That said, I like that you'e trying out innovative strategies. On a weaker board, it might have been good.

I play for fun, so sometimes I just try silly things. Let's say... not always to great succes, haha.

I sometimes think of a game of Dominion in a vague economic way; it has helped my play a lot. What is the quickest way to build an engine? There's opportunity cost and marginal utility involved for sure. For example, picking up an Armory is initially slow, but it speeds you up in the long run by gaining more cards. Sometimes, picking up that extra village is less useful than picking up something else. There's also considering fastest way to an endgoal for your engine (company) to maximize profit.
