Would love to get back to the 40-42 range that I was almost always in (lately I had to stop playing iso for two weeks or so), but ack, so busy!

Good to be back in the top 10 after a long break from serious playing. I don't think I can touch Stef/Obi Wan/Marin these days though, at least not with all random playing against random (lowish level) opponents like I am. I'm just not good enough any more, and they certainly are.

Yeah, it's weird simultaneously wanting to hit the top 10, but knowing that all 10 of them currently there are substantially better than me. I've been hovering in the mid-teens for awhile now, and that's probably where I belong. Remember when Level 44 was the top of the leaderboard? That's where I am now.

After a stellar week I have finally managed to break the 40 barrier! Didn't think I would make it to 40 before ISO went down; but now I am afraid to play anymore games for fear of dropping my level.

I had some time sitting in an airport with free wifi and a couple of hours to kill this weekend. I managed to get my level up to 30 for a day (before going right back down the next day), but that's a personal high for me! I doubt it will ever get that high again...

Have the upper ranks gotten more competitive? I was 32-33 back in the day and then took a long break around Cornucopia. I came back in having dropped to 15 and now I seem to have stalled at 26.

Definitely. I think it's a combination of the True-Skill ranking system having a built-in level creep over time, more players playing, and the good players actually getting better. I was a 36 once, in the top-100 of all players. Now I can't get above 31.

basically what gendoikari said. this popped up earlier in this thread and i addressed the basics of it back in this post.

If I understand correctly, wouldn't these help me? Wouldn't I be one of the people pushed into the 35-40 bucket? The "level creep" is the result of an accumulation of players at levels 1-5 who play for a little bit and then leave, correct or do I misunderstand the FAQ?

i have no idea of what your level is now or what your situation is. but the (theoretical) creep would likely give a slight boost to upper level players while making it a little harder for poor players to level up. it wouldn't just be a flat bump up for everyone. either way, the effect is not all that significant, especially if you are newer to the game. and it is also going to (theoretically) diminish over time.

i'm pretty sure Marin now holds the (unofficial) record for highest level ever on isotropic. he is currently sitting at 53.956, a bit higher than -Stef-'s 53.599 back in june.

i think he has the highest skill rating (64.112) too, but i haven't kept track of that so i'm not as confident in that.

No, I do think that one of the people gaming the system had something near 70 skill when they were playing only the necessary amount of games to stay on the leader board.

I never check the leaderboard; this thread made me realize that I'm ranked number 102.

Also, looking at the names above me on the leaderboard, it's no wonder I've never made it any higher.

EDIT: Also bragging because I got lucky and beat Marin in the one game we played ._.
