Is there anything I could have done to win?

Here's a set I just played (as Fin Fang Foom):

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201201/24/game-20120124-084459-3bef2834.html

My opponent opened 2/5 and bought the IGG.  I opened 4/3, and bought Silver.  I didn't get 5 coins in my hand until turn 5, and I didn't see any way of catching up at that point.

What could I have done differently?

Not much, although I don't like the turn 8 province. Gold or IGG, or... Vault! How about a vault! I think a couple vaults could have helped.

There are a number of things you could have done better but probably not enough to win. Starting with a woodcutter, why not? Buy silk roads ahead of duchies ahead of the last iggs (your opponent dropped to 4 coin hands at just the time he should have been thinking about that switch).

A very rough simulation suggests that vaults are competitive and can buy provinces despite the curses, not buying any iggs.

I think vault destroys IGG in most games and you win if you buy one on turn 5. Of course, this is cold comfort in the long run since your opponent should have opened vault with the 5-2 split.
