Please note, I've decided to significantly lessen the number of awards we give out this year, but hope to add in more discussion.  See post 2 for what I mean.

Mafia Game of the Year
Players, mods, and spectators should nominate the most memorable game from 2015, based on the player/spectator experience.  This award highlights and recognizes the overall best game held during 2015, and includes all aspects of a mafia game on f.ds.  When someone asks, "hey, what game should I reread to know if I should start playing mafia at f.ds?," this should be the first game that comes to mind.

Mafia Setup of the Year
Players, mods, and spectators should nominate the most impressive original setup introduced in 2015 based on the player/spectator experience.  This award highlights and recognizes setup creation by a mod, and focuses on all the important aspects of a good game of mafia: including balance, roles, and thematic interactions.

Flavor of the Year
We all know that writing flavor can be a hard and grueling task.  This award recognizes those mod specifically who put the time in to choose, implement, and write flavor that improves the game experience, while not disadvantaging players who don't know the flavor.  Players, mods, and spectators should nominate the most spectacular flavor used in a game in 2015.

Town Player of the Year
Players, mods, and spectators should nominate the one player that they would rank as the absolute best when given the town alignment in 2015. This award highlights and recognizes a player that best embodies the virtues of good, and includes characteristics such as strong scumhunting, the ability to convince fellow players of good ideas, plans, setup theory; and appropriate and impactful use of night actions.

Scum Player of the Year
Players, mods, and spectators should nominate the one player that they would rank as the absolute best when given an anti-town alignment in 2015. This award highlights and recognizes a player that best embodies the virtues of (in-game) evil, and includes characteristics such as an uncanny ability to fool everyone else, extraordinary skill at exploiting any extra information received as scum, phenomenal fake claims, and impactful use of night actions.

Newbie of the Year
Players, mods, and spectators should nominate the one player who debuted in 2015 that rises above the rest, regardless of alignment.  This award highlights and recognizes a new player's ability to quickly and accurately learn metas, rules, setups, and make an immediate positive impact on f.ds's mafia world.

Mod of the Year
Players, mods, and spectators should nominate the absolute best mod of 2015, based on their performance at all aspects of running a game.  This award highlights and recognizes a mod's attention to detail, creativity, and dedication to the game and f.ds.  Specifically, this should include setup creation and explanation, flavor writing, and accuracy in vote counts and rulings, and availability to the players.

What I'd rather not happen is for those posts to be used for stumping or vote chasing.  I doubt anyone will do that, but I'd rather we refrain from "what, that game wasn't as good!" or "you all should vote for him because X!" sorts of things.

You can see there's no [SERIOUS] in the title, so no worries there.  I'm sure we'll all be fine having fun memory discussions.

I mean, if someone expends time and energy writing here about how they deserve a specific award, I'm worried it'll just turn off a lot of great discussion.  I know some games have become that way with MVPs, for example.

I'm glancing at games and man, day 4 of Flavorless Mafia was fun. I'm obviously biased on that one, but that was pretty exciting, and a great example of how things can go wrong really, really fast (for both alignments).

I think scum is generally favored on f.ds historically, not just this year.

I guess so, I know it was fun to observe/read from an outside perspective, but I tend to root for town by default, so that probably plays a role.

I like the new format. Though it's a bit sad that some categories are gone, I think fewer categories make for more submissions and more discussion, which is good. And some categories were a bit redundant.

Well I wouldn't say sheer luck. It was crazy, and extremely high risk, and there were some elements that weren't greatly done. But there was some element of strategy to it. Keeping Awaclus from being lynched despite my persistent desire to do so had a lot to do with ash and gkrieg distracting me from that lynch. So I guess the claim might not have been great, but the way that they dealt with it afterwards was pretty awesome.

And in the end it worked. So... for me, that fits the bill of "best" more so than any other metric. A perfect fake claim that still isn't believed does nothing for the team trying to win the game.

I updated the new Mafia Records thread (now sticky'ed) through M70, but only in the games records section.  I also didn't check or fix anything, so the formatting isn't perfect.  Thanks to everyone who did the hard work for me.

To pull out individual stats is a much more labor intensive process for me.  I'll try to do that Wednesday.

I do need M71's game record done.

If memory serves me right, Futuramafia, Fanfiction, Switch and maybe Blink are probably the most interesting games out of those. I wasn't in Dwarf Fortress though and I didn't follow it either.

I think the impact an individual player has on the game is so small and variance is so high that you need probably several hundred games to have reliable stats.

(no idea if I'm making an argument for or against myself with this, because I have zero clue what my winrate is looking like)

Basically, he got mad about something in Lost mafia, and as his revenge, he send the contents of the mafia QT to every player involved in the game, in a message titled something to the effect of 'an apology'.

I will create threads with polls for each award one nominations are closed, which is soon.

I wanted to note, if people want to PM me some lines about any games, players, or mods they've nominated, I'm planning to put in some time to write some descriptions for why the nominees are listed in said voting threads.
