Unlucky seating position?
« on: January 10, 2012, 04:14:48 pm »

I was looking at my stats and noticed I get seated in the 2nd table position in a 2 player game at least 68% of the time.

2 player games played: 633
Total 2 player games played in table position 1:  208

And the 208 includes my multiplayer games which would be about 35 of them would be table seat 1 if split evenly.

I'm I missing something or I'm I just getting unlucky seat draws in 2 player games?  68% seems a bit far away from the expected 50% split.

Thanks,
Crispy

Isotropic implements the rule from the base game that when playing a 2nd game, whoever lost goes first.

DougZ interpreted this into the online realm that if Alice and Bob play, and Alice had lost to Charlie, and Bob had beaten Donald X. in their most recent matches, then Alice will go first in the game.

If neither player lost their most recent game, or both had lost, then it returns to a coinflip.

So, if you are good, you're likely to play from 2P more often.

Basically what Captain_Frisk said. If you win you are placed in the winner's pool; if you lose into the loser's pool. Also when you first enter the lobby you are placed into the winner's pool.

When you start a game iso checks which pool you are in. If the two people are in different pools, loser's pool player goes first. Otherwise its a 50/50.

Also if you really really care you can try to manipulate this to improve your rankings, but that seems like way too much work.

The biggest (and least offensive) gaming you can to the board is to NEVER quit after a loss.

I've heard rumors of starting an unranked game and resigning - to ensure that you get 1p advantage, but I'm honestly not sure if it works, and because councilroom keeps the game log anyway, if someone ever did it and made it to the top, then I'm pretty sure we'd all be on here griping about it.

Yeah pretty much the only thing I do is end on a win most of the time. Though I will say if you are competitive and find yourself frustrated or on tilt and can't seem to buy a win, stop playing and cut your losses.

Interesting, all this time I thought that if you won, it would try to auto-match you with someone who had just lost, and vice-versa.

That must be it!  I just noticed I always hit exit after a game instead of "return".  So I'm always re-logging in after every game.

Glad I submited this post and thanks for the response.

If neither player lost their most recent game, or both had lost, then it returns to a coinflip.

I'm not positive about this.  My impression was that if both players had been playing several games, that the P1 slot was given to whichever player had most recently lost.  In other words, if you and I have each played four games, and I went LWWW, but you went WLWW, then you're going first.

IE8 for me the "return" doesn't work, so I've been using "exit".

I highly recommend getting Firefox or Chrome.  It will have benefits beyond dominion.

People still use IE?

At the very least, upgrade to IE9.

It's probably not a money thing. It's most likely a security thing. Most companies have software to, well, basically spy on thier own equipment and/or just be able to control it if they so want, force installs of patches, etc. etc. and they have it set up for whatever settings now, and don't want to have to adapt all that.

Yeah, workplaces suck like that.  But then, if you're playing from work...
