Hi,

just playing my first game with travellers and Jester and was wondering whether you can gain the non-supply cards? I assume you can, but I'm not sure since disciple for example  can not.

You can't. "Gain" only means from the Supply unless the card specifies that you gain something from another zone.

Note that this also applies to Feast, Remodel, Remake, etc. Remodel would be insanely powerful if you could just turn any into a Champion!

Makes sense. I tried looking it up in the Cornucopia and Adventures manual, should've looked into the base one, it seems!

I'm aware of those, I just thought Jester was a special case since Jester can also gain P cards for example.

I don't know whether the base rules explicitly state that "gain" is by default from the supply. Maybe in the rules about the trash and/or Thief, but there's not much going on in terms of non-supply besides that.

Either way, the rule is simply this: If a card says "gain" without naming a target, it's from the supply. If it names a specific pile, it's from that pile. Thief doesn't strictly say "from the trash", but the wording makes clear that you gain the cards from the trash. So, if Jester hits a Spoils, it can't gain it, but a Thief hitting one will trash it (nothing on either card prohibits trashing a Spoils) and then be able to get it from there.

To my surprise, the base rules state only that "gain" is usually from the supply (and then the FAQs for Feast, Remodel, and Workshop state that they can only gain from the supply).

Jester's rules:

The gained copies
and Curses come from the Supply and are put into the discard
piles of the players who gain them. If a card is revealed for which
there are no copies in the Supply, no one gains a copy of it.
