Event Speculation
« on: April 02, 2015, 12:54:14 pm »
+2

So now that we know what events are and how they work, we have a few days to guess what the other 17 are.  Here are a couple SWAGs:

Land Grab (cost 3)
Take a VP token. (Yes I know this isn't compatible unless you also have Prosperity so it won't happen, but anyway....)

Shopping Spree (cost 1)
+2 buys

Cleanup (cost 2)
+1 buy
For the rest of this turn, you may buy from the trash.  Cards in the trash cost half their normal price rounded down.

Based on my earlier speculation about Events...

- Card that gives you access to a randomly drawn selection of extra events, like Black Market.  This seems less likely now, since they should all be in the randomizer deck and it would be a hassle to take them out.

- Card that gives you access to a small, specific set of events (maybe even just a single event).  Like Black Market, but with a static selection rather than a randomly drawn bunch.

- Events that let you gain special tokens (which I speculated thoroughly about here).

- Events with set-up or passive rules that change the game from the start.

- Events that can have rule changes that toggle on and off when you buy the Event.

- An event that gives you +2 Buys.  I think this is totally a thing that can happen.  When this idea came up before, the abuse case was primarily due to cost reduction, but Events are unaffected by Bridge and the like so it should work fine.  I would guess $2 for +2 Buys.  (I see that you have this in the OP as well.  I think $1 cost is too easy though).

*cough* Great Hall *cough*

Edit: I guess just coughing isn't exactly polite. Sorry. But well, what i mean is that a VP token isn't much different from Great Hall, in that both are unobstrusive VPs. Great Hall is better in a way, as it can be gained without spending a buy.

However Great Hall can technically be drawn dead, whereas a VP token is completely unobtrusive. ;)

Although who draws terminally with GH's in their deck...?

I wonder if there will be a token to put on supply piles to make cards in that pile cheaper or more expensive.  That would be cool for Band of Misfits.

That would be really cool. I'd love one token that makes a card cheaper for you, and one that makes the copies in your deck more expensive.

Maybe a simple "turn your Journey token over" event.

This wouldn't work unless there were a lot more things that used Journey tokens. Otherwise the vast majority of the time that you have that event, the Journey token wouldn't even be in the game.

But an event that actually uses the Journey token could be cool.

Perhaps "flip your [or maybe any player's?] Journey token.  Each player with a face-down Journey token gains a curse."

I still think there should be a token you use to get an advantage whenever somebody else plays a certain card. "Put your +1Card token on an action card pile in the supply. (When another player plays a card from that pile, you first draw a card)."

It would punish single-card-strategies, and i think ithat's a nice thing to do.

It might not do what you want.  Suppose you have a cool engine with lots of different cards that relies on the one village in the supply.  Maybe then I can get away with a Big Money strategy just by putting that token on the village.

Doesn't Embargo do this ?

Interesting point. What if it did something that doesn't help big money as much, like letting you trash a card from your hand? Or just draw until you have six cards in hand so it doesn't scale? Edit: Scaling is better, though.

Another good point. Though i probably didn't make a good point myself describing it as a punishment in the first place. It's more so that i turn your card into a friendly interaction. It's nice to me, not mean to you. And it's on play, not buy, so it scales with use. The goal itself is similar, but not much more not than with Harvest and Menagerie. I think it's pretty different.

You are probably wondering, is there also a +1 Buy token, a +1 Card token, a +$1 token? Yes, of course there are those too.

I'm calling 3 Lost Arts variants.

Of course. But how much will they cost?
