How about Fallout and Fallout II for RPG? Really can't imagine anything better in that genre.

Well I'm not a huge video gamer, but I've been playing the Civ series all my life, and I'd disagree with CIIv being the best of the series. It's either CIV or CiV, depending on your thoughs on 1UPT (1 Unit Per Tile).

If you're going for "historical impact", obviously the first one is the best, I mean yeah CIIv was probably a bigger upgrade than any other one, but still. But today ? I own all of these, and the only reason I would ever play CIIv would be the nostalgia (the music especially).

I was surprised to not see XCom in the original list, but lists are subjective. Also, maybe that game was simply missed. I somehow missed out on playing Fallout when it came out, which captured tactical shooters as well as XCom. Speaking of which, I was so happy that the new XCom was not a disappointment. It had big shoes to fill.

I also missed out on Planescape Torment, but that was because I was pretty much boycotting D&D at the time, and I couldn't be bothered with a video game based on a substandard RPG. I picked up the game from GOG.com, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was fun in spite of the D&D rules.

Oooh, the Plan escape:Torment computer game was awesome.. mystery. betrayal, intrigue, severed limbs, a talking head that followed you around and taunted you.. it really had everything.

Hmm possibly I didn't explain it well, but this is the best games I think of from the 90's which I think as a whole is the best of any generation when taken as a group

No point in saying for example Arkham Asylum, because that's just one game out of one category, it's the best of the decade

So the way to show that the 90's are not the best generation of games would be pointing out games from other decades that are better, wouldn't it?

Well they'd have to collectively be better.

uhm... hasn't broodwar been released in the 90's? You know, the best RTS game of all time? No-one has even mentioned that in this thread.
