DC area f.ds meetup (January 24 & 25)
« on: December 04, 2014, 12:58:51 pm »

When: Saturday, January 24th and Sunday, January 25th

Where: The Board and Brew, 8150 Baltimore Ave. College Park, MD 20740

Saturday

12pm - My place for hanging out/maybe brunch. If you plan on coming by please PM me so I can send you my address.

6pm - Board & Brew for dinner/gaming, unless you guys would rather eat somewhere else.

Sunday

12pm - Board & Brew for bonus gaming. I'll be at my gig from 12-3 but will plan on stopping by after that for a little bit. I do want to spend some time at MAGfest seeing as I did spend money on it.

The easy way to get there is to take 495 to the Route 1 exit, go south, and it'll be on your right next to Bobby's Burger Palace.

I know there have been a lot of people who expressed interest already but if there is a high probability of you attending please PM me so I can coordinate everything.

Thank you to werothegreat for coming up with this idea in the first place. If I've missed anything please let me know. Thanks and see you there!

Thanks, we never really decided on a time. Maybe 7-ish to give everyone a chance to eat first?

I think those of us who are coming from out of town would be more interested in getting food together.

Agreed. I was thinking this would be a longish affair. Also, if we're settled on Saturday, would someone be able to give me a ride from Union Station at either 12:45, 2:55, or 5:15 PM on Saturday? I would like to get tickets before they inevitably skyrocket in price.

I am down for a longer affair myself.  Could those of us interested meet elsewhere earlier in the day and move to board & brew later?

We could hang out at my place but I can't accomodate too many people. So somewhere in the afternoon  on Saturday and then Board & Brew, and then Board & Brew Sunday?

Would prefer longer affair. I'd be actually going for the weekend if I can make it, so I'd hope that we could spend most of Saturday afternoon / evening gaming. Also, is it assumed that this isn't limited to Dominion only, but various board games as well?

Awesome! Thanks. If people will be around at 2:55, that one's probably the most convenient for me. What say you all?

Yeah any time is fine with me but some people are traveling and will arrive in the afternoon. So we can hang out at my place around noon or so aa long as it's just a few people and then we can meet everyone else at The Board & Brew when everyone arrives. This is just an idea, I'm open to anything.

Ok, so I'm going to get that ticket, and then could someone take me back to Union station on Sunday for either the 12:30PM or 3:10PM bus. Or if we're going to hang out Sunday afternoon, I could do the 5:10 or the 8:45.

I can take you back as well.  I'd probably prefer to leave before 8:45, so maybe not that bus, unless you don't mind waiting for it for a half hour or hour.

Thanks again! I would have to be at Union station fifteen minutes to half an hour beforehand anyway (depending on how big it is), so that would probably be fine. The earlier buses are slightly cheaper, but if people are planning to hang out for longer I would rather stick around.

So are people planning to do anything on Sunday (in which case I'll get the later 5:10 or 8:45 tickets) or not (in which case I'll get the 12:30)?

My plan was to get in as much dominion as time allows.  I don't know the venues though.

Just realized I have a brunch gig every Sunday at noon. So you guys should reserve a table and come hang out before you start gaming again.

So you're saying that you organized this entire event just so you would have a few extra bodies at your gig? For shame, Andrew.

Yo! I don't know if this is wrong place to post, but here's something worth checking out.

Labyrnth games in DC is having a tournament this weekend. I won't be able to make it but the organizer said they are still looking for a few participants. This Sunday in DC. Do it if you can, the place is a great venue and they have a fantastic selection of games available.

Yes it's still on! And my girlfriend informed me that we have an air mattress so if someone else wants to crash here they can, though it would be super cramped.

Do you have extra blankets/pillows, or should I bring my own?

I think bring both just in case.

Who is going to take up the role of photographer?

I will bring my camera, but I don't think I want the pressure of being official photographer.

That's cool.  I'm not from the area, so that's the only reason I haven't made any concrete plans. (I am driving in from Columbia, SC on Friday)

Ok let's do the detail thing.

Sound good to everyone?

I DEMAND PICTURES!!

I would like pictures too!

Also, it is only logical that, as a gathering of efdeesers (feedeesers? fuhduhsers?), most of the pictures should be of you playing Dominion. With the camera focused on the table where you are playing, so that we can make out the cards. Just to make sure that you are not playing Ascension or something, of course.

The camera better be high definition, btw. No particular reason, I huh just like nice pictures.

If Andrew would prefer to go to magfest in the afternoon Saturday,  I'd like to meet up somewhere if anyone else wants to game early.  Perhaps the game store mentioned earlier in the thread?

I can probably make it to wherever around 11 am, though later is obviously fine.

Sadly, labyrinth games appears to be hosting a private event at the same time, so that's out.  The board and brew, however, is open from 11 a.m. to past midnight, so we could just meet there super early if anyone would like to.  I assume as long as we order a drink or something now and then they'd be cool.

It's not that I prefer MAGfest, it's just that if only one person iis going to hang out in the afternoon I might as well go to MAGfest at that time and meet up with everyone later. So if anyone else wants to come by my place Saturday afternoon, shoot me a PM soon so I can figure everything out.

It's not that I prefer MAGfest, it's just that if only one person iis going to hang out in the afternoon I might as well go to MAGfest at that time and meet up with everyone later. So if anyone else wants to come by my place Saturday afternoon, shoot me a PM soon so I can figure everything out.

Count me in as a second person.

Yep.  Geo is going to be coming in later, though - he's going to be spending the afternoon in DC with a friend.

Confirmed; I'll be there! Will be bringing my complete Dominion collection; all sets and promos and the Base cards set; so enough for 3 separate simultaneous games. I'll also bring Temporum for those who want to play or learn.

EDIT: Ok done, we're booked for 6pm on Saturday and all they ask is somebody (me) be there at 6 or a little earlier.

Sadly, labyrinth games appears to be hosting a private event at the same time, so that's out.  The board and brew, however, is open from 11 a.m. to past midnight, so we could just meet there super early if anyone would like to.  I assume as long as we order a drink or something now and then they'd be cool.
Finally talked to some folks who've actually been to board and brew at a recent game night.  They said yes, b&b is cool as long as you're ordering drinks... they like to sell stuff just like any other business :)  So if anyone's going to b&b earlier than 6 on Saturday, post about it.  Depending on what else is happening at magfest I might join in.

The long drive begins in the morning.  I hear we'll be getting snow.  Hopefully this leads to no setbacks.  Granted, I am accustomed to new Hampshire snow, which was probably considerably worse.

It looks like there's a few metro stations near Andrew's place.  If you can make it to any of those, I can pick you up!

It's going quite well, and still is.  I stopped in and had a blast.  I can't believe I've never been to the Board Room before.  I can't think of anything else you might possibly want to know about the evening, so I'll stop there.  ;)

So, today I dropped by at Andrew's mansion.  It's a quaint building near the heart of the capitol, adorned with rows of fine musical volumes and luxurious teas growing in the cupboard.  We gossiped for a while about Adam Horton, then the butler came to inform us that wero had arrived, soon followed by jonts and gendo.  We ate crumpets and began various games of monopoly, laughing about how it resembled our own conquests of High society.  Soon later, wero left to locate geolib, and we continued the same game of monopoly before becoming quite peckish.  Afterward, we headed toward the board and brew, an upscale establishment  in the finest part of town and drank cocktails while exploring the new monopoly expansion.  After being joined by axeknight and a newcomer to the forums, we split in to several groups and played various games, including a time travel variant of Othello.  After a long day, I had to retire, then come back here and write this completely legitimate recollection.

So, today I dropped by at Andrew's mansion.  It's a quaint building near the heart of the capitol, adorned with rows of fine musical volumes and luxurious teas growing in the cupboard.

He's kind of a big deal.

Jsh - just a reminder to tell Donald about checking the wording on the one card that may or may not be broken in combination with other cards.

And here's the players (L to R: Dingan, Jonts, Wero, FTTW, GeoLib, Axe Knight, JSH, Gendo)

Are those tokens on the table on the right part of the new monopoly expansion?

But similar tokens might be part of the real thing? I guess it was in the blurb that there would be new tokens...

Yesterday morning, I was one of you.  Now, I know all these things that I can't tell any of you.  *melodramatic sigh*

But seriously, super excited for this expansion, even after seeing the cards - I can't wait to see the official artwork and stuff!

And yeah, Hot Air Balloon is pretty OP.

Thank you to everyone who came, I had a great time and I consider myself very lucky to have gotten a preview of the new cards. We should try to do this once a year or so.

What's worse is that now I can't edit the Adventures page on the wiki without it looking like I'm confirming or denying something.  :(

Super randomly, just throwing this out there...
Anyone wanna do something like this again on the evening of Dec. 29th?  I'll be in the area for that day only.  Obviously, metro-accessible is probably preferable for most people (myself included).

I'd be more interested in something after New Year's, since I'll be in Connecticut over the holiday.

Bummer.  I'll also be traveling for the holidays... to DC.  (I used to live there, not anymore, going back for a wedding.)

Of course, if people want to do something on some other day, that would be cool, but I wouldn't be able to join (figured I'd resurrect the topic anyways).
