I worry about smart coders writing AI unchecked.
The thing is, the technology just doesn't exist for anyone to write the kind of AI that would be required to take over the world. These doomsday scenarios tend to require an AI capable of applying engineering prowess to improve itself, and an engineering AI is way beyond the capabilities of current algorithms. Assuming technological progress continues in the future, we'll get to that point eventually, but it's pretty far off.

Or it just has to think it's playing a game.

Existing AI algorithms aren't really capable of the kind of long-term planning and out-of-the-box thinking that drives technological progress. AI game players dodge this weakness by abusing their capacity to do a lot of exact computation, but that works mostly because games are a constrained setting.

But even severe climate change is very unlikely to lead to human extinction.
In my view, the danger here is not immediate species extinction, but rather rapid disruption of civilization leading to technological regression. It would be quite hard to recover from a technological regression, because we've already consumed the easily-extractable resources to bootstrap our current civilization. Doing it a second time might be impossible, even if the world is hospitable enough otherwise.

No, no, you have to say "This statement is a lie" to defeat rogue AIs. I saw it in a movie.

For "that dress", does anyone else here see it as brownish-gold/faded blue? That's the only way I can see it and feel like a minority in the debate.

Considering that those are the actual colours (having checked using paint to identify the RGB makeup), no, you aren't alone. It's what I see too.

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/610514

I made this. I think the viola staccato is too loud, but other than that, how's it sound?
I didn't think the violas were too loud at all - they provide the rhythmic drive given that there were no drums (at least early).  In fact I thought the mix overall was pretty superb, and I was listening through tiny little computer speakers.   A possible exception was at about the 2:10 or 2:20 mark, during the crescendo phase, the staccato actually got a little lost, and I missed them because they formed (for me) the theme of the piece.

I read your comments but not the commenters' comments.  You think "the ending is too short".  I don't think it ended too suddenly, if that is what you meant by "too short".  If instead you mean "not fully formed" then I think that depends on what (if anything) the piece is to be used for.

I liked it a lot, and I am a former (part time) musician.  How was it created?  All synths?

It's what I saw too. I could extrapolate to either direction, but the actual colors I saw were definitely a light blue and a browny gold.
