Oh, no, it's not bad.  Just the picture was shrunk to fit on my phone screen, and I wasn't looking at it that carefully, and I saw what I thought were differently colored facets for a soccer ball, except the ball was not a sphere so I thought it was deflated.

I guess someone that is more familiar (Action- 3P) with soccer than golf can be excused from associating an image with something they know well. So you are forgiven.

That makes it sound like he didn't actually finish decrypting it, which makes you wonder how he realized what the thing was.  Assuming he did decrypt it properly, why should he look so defeated in that picture?

My first thought exactly.

There was a question in my physics that I was stuck on...  It said someone was holding a ball, with his arm at a right angle so his lower arm was parallel to the floor (it had a diagram, it's simpler than you think), and the ball weighed a certain amount, the biceps connected to the lower arm at this point at this angle, and I had to find what force the biceps and the humerus (upper arm bone) were exerting.  It turned out it assumed the lower arm doesn't weigh anything and didn't put that in the equation (which it had done things similar to it in the past)...

That's a statics equation, as nothing is moving, of a beam at a fixed length. Your result will be in the form of torque, because the lower arm has length to it.
